My daughters power supply for her C640 has a pinch

My daughter's power supply for her Dell Latitude C640 has a pinch in the power cord right next to where it plugs into the computer. The power cord still works but if the cord is bend the right way the computer shuts off. This has happened a few times and now her computer will not turn on at all, even when using my power supply. Is there a reset button or some easy way to get her computer to turn on again when using my power supply?

My daughter and I have indentical computers & power supplies. When I plug my power cord into her computer to charge her battery nothing happens. The charging light does not even come on.

It shows that it is still charged 76%.

I just noticed you said system battery. Do you mean a button battery found inside the computer or the large external battery?

  • atomshaman Jan 31, 2010

I charged her battery a bit more in my computer and then placed it back in her's. Her computer booted up. I then shut it down and removed the battery and tried to turn it on useing my good power supply. It did nothing no lights or anything. I then put the battery back in and it would boot again. While it was on with both the charged battery and the good power supply attached I popped out the battery and it shut off. Having both power supplies connected and pulling the power supply cord leaves the computer running on battery. I then let the 80% charged battery run the computer, but after a few minutes or seconds the computer shut down. I was able to reboot a couple of times after that but with the same results, it shut off qickly. I took the battery our of her computer and tried it in mine and it would not even start the computer. I checked the charge after connecting the power supply and it was at 47%.

I suggest you DONT USE PINCH POWER CORD FOR SAFETY.

PLEASE TELL ME IS YOUR POWER CORD & THE PINCHED CORD ARE SAME? I MEAN SAME MODEL? AFTER PLUGING OF YOUR CORD, THE BATTERY CHARGING LIGHTS ITS ON? IF NO THEN I GUESS THAT CABLE NOT SUPPORT HER LAPTOP.
VISIT A DELL SERVICE CENTER OR A SHOWROOM AND BUY NEW CORD WHICH IS MADE FOR YOUR DAUGHTER LAPTOP MODEL.
OTHER WISE SOME CHANCES OF SHORTCIRCUIT ON MOTHERBOARD.

Thanks, i am waiting for your feed back & if you satisfied then thumps me please.

Ahhhh. My doubt is right. When you use the pinched cord its make a shortcirduit and inside power board are rosted or some fuse damaged. I Reffer you to visit your service center.

Ok. Listen when you on the system via battery after a white it shutted down right. Its not a problem. Becouse your power option setting is when you use battery after 5 - 10 min its auto shut down Show if you go control panel then power option from there you can change the setting. But the main things is your doughter laptop does not work by power cord. So its clear that the the power connector of the laptop does not work. So dont wait just visit service center. And one more thing when your on the laptop by battery don't take out the battery on running mode. It will a cause of a OS corrupt.

    Thanks you.

If you judge i am right then dont forget to thumps up for me.

Hi,

it seems that the battery of the laptop is totally discharged. if the battery of your daughters laptop is the same size and shae and compatible with your own laptop...please plug in the battery to your own laptop so that the battery gets charged and then you can turn the laptop on using the battery mode.
it would be better if you get the power supply replaced\repaired as charging battery each time from your laptop will not be a permanent solution to the problem.

I am looking for a power cord for a Inspririon 1545. Every one has a round plug in, my daughter has the computer in TX, I am in another state. She says the plug is 8 sided. Will round work? I have been on...

Hi,
I understand what you are going through right now, I would like to let you know that yes the power cord is going to work, you can call on the dell sales department on the number 800 289 3355.
If you want u can order it from them or you can ask your daughter to check with the local retail stores like best buy, walmart , staples, sams-club, if they have the power-cord in their stock.
The amount for the power-cord is around $65 and you can ask them for the free next business day shipping from dell sales.

Thanks and Regards

No power

check your power supply and make sure the proper power at the ends and the light is on the power supply, I no those C640 s have a problem with the darn plug in and the pins in the laptop may have got bend or broken check that out and if all the pins are not bent. your power supply may be bad check that out, if so you can go to Dellsupport.com and order one for fairly cheap. I think that will fix your problem.
