The replacement board could be defective. Your TV worked fine until there was a power loss so its time to troubleshoot to find out how the power loss affected the original board in theTV. There could have been a power surge.

Hello
The fault to this Trinitron TV is loose soldering ofcourse. Check all the soldering points at the video output card, which can be located at the base of the picture tube. Normally the components fitted on this board will heat up while working, and repeated heating and cooling will make the solder terminals of the componets to get loose contacted. Just pull out the CRT base board from the CRT causiously without make a damage to picture tube pins. Look for any loose solderings at this board. It is quite difficult to detect these loose solder points as some of them will be microscoppicaly small and can be seen with the help of a magnifying glass. Just do what we do at service table. Just resolder all the suspected solder points by applying a little more solder, without making any solder bridge short between adjecent solder terminals. In most cases, nearly 85%, the fault will be cleared out with this process. Check the plug in connection wire [comes from main board to picture tube base board] for any loose connection. Just pull it out from the main board, and reinsert it for at least two times. If any loose connections to this wire connection, this will clear out it. OK.

Hello
The fault can be detected from your problem post itself. When you hit at the back of your TV the fault disappeares, means there is some soldering loose or socket loose inside it. Normally, these faults will come appear after the set will got heated. The soldering points will get loose contacted, after some time, especially the solerings to the terminals of components, which will heat up durin working. This is normal fault to all kind of TVs. Your TV no also sufferes to this fault.
To determine which board and component is loosley contacted, just open your TV, and hit the top of components [verylightly with some non conductive material like plastic scale or so] , while the TV is working. Switch on your TV after opening its back cover, and wait for some time, say 20 minutes or so, and do this. From this you can determine the dry solered component. After detecting it, switch off the TV and take the board out, turn it upside down and resolder the suspected soldering points by applying a little more solder; without making any solder bridge in between adjecent soldering points.
This will surely resolve your TV's problem. If you want anymore assistance, please feel free to get me by Fixya.
If you want to get me, please post your comments after 9 hours from now, otherwise the post will go to an other, and I can't answer it. OK.

No sound

Hello
If picture is OK and there is no sound output from your tv, means either its speaker or the Sound output Ic is not working. The case of speaker fault can be easly detected without opening the TV. You just place your ear very near to the speaker side and switch on the TV by AC mains [not with remote control]. You may hear a "thumb" SOUND OR A "HUM" sound from it. If any one is there the internal speaker is working fine. The fault lies in audio output Ic stage. If there is no sound said above, speaker can be suspected. Befor confirming that the speaker is faulty, if your TV has an earphone or headphone jack in front, insert the earphone or headphone socket into it, and check whether there is any sound heard from it. If there is sound from headphone, means that the headphone socket is faulty, it does not bypass the sound to the speaker. When head phone is connected, the connection to the speaker will automatically cut of. When it is pulled out from the socket, the speaker connection will resume. If the changeover switch inside the earphone socket also show this kind of trouble. If the speaker inside is found faulty, unscrew it out of place after opening the TV, go for a same type and number, impedence and shape.
If there comes the above said "HUM" sound from the speaker, surely the Sound Output Ic is faulty. Replacing it will solve the probelm. Before replacing it, check it soldering points for any loose contact. It is best to resolder all suspected point is sound section before replacing the ic.
Note: In modern TVs there will be any trace of sound, without a video signal. Without video, sound is muted. ok.

Hello
Picture being Ok, and no sound output, means there is some problem inside the sound output circuit of your TV. It may be due to a speaker fault or an IC fault. You have to find out which of these has fault.
You just place your ear very close to the speaker side, and switch on your TV with its AC mains On-Off switch, not by remote control handset. Listen carefully, whether there is any sound output of any form comes out of it or not. If there is no sound at all you can determine that the speaker may be out, not in all cases. If you have the habit of listening your TVs audio by using a headphone, continious in-out action could damage your TVs headphone socket. If the headphone sockets' contact got damaged, no sound output will come from it to the speakers. Suppose you can hear the sound through your headphones but not throuhg speaker, means that its change over contact has some trouble. You just do this first. Insert a headphone pin into your TVs headphone socket, if provided, al listen to it for sound. If there is no sound from headphone also, Sound output Ic iside your TV has damaged, or not getting proper voltage to it. If there is sound through the headphone, and not from TVs speaker, trouble is related either speaker or the above said socket.
If all the above has no effect, that is no sound either from headphone, of from the speaker, you should go into the circuit board of your tv to get the fault.
Open your TVs back cover, and trace for the sound output section. There will be an Ic used as sound output. Check whether it getting heated some time after switch on the TV. If it overheats without any sound output, it is damaged Desolder it out from the circuit board, go for a same type and number, replacing it will solve the problem. If it doesn't overheat, or no heat at all, check its input voltage. In some cases, loose soldering points on the legs of Ic may also the cause. Check it too. Ok.
If you need any more clarification, ask me through Fixya. Give
a brief explanation about what you have done so far also.

TV has sound, but picture not clear and in black and white. Model P42W46X

Is the picture "snowy"?
- I mean is the signal weak?
If so, check your aerial cable has not come loose at the back of the TV.

If you have another TV, or can bnorrow one from a friend/neighbor, plug this into your cable and see if the picture is ok. If so, you have a tuner fault in your TV & will need to call an engineer.
If not, then the fault is with your cable co. or outside aerial, (whichever system you have plugged in there).
