Your problem may well be a loose connection ( cold solder joint ) on the printed circuit board. A person would need to disassemble the set and remove the printed circuit board so that you can view the soldered side. Look for any connections that may be loose or discolored ( the color on all the soldered places should be a shiny silver color ). When you have located these area or places that seem to be different or loose, resolder them with a soldering iron, and electronic solder lead. You set should be fixed. Good luck and I hope this has helped.
AS A NORMAL PRE CAUTION, ALWAYS UNPLUG THE SET BEFORE OPENING OR REMOVING THE BACK

Make a fist bang on the tv frame bazel, see if u get a picture flashes? Most of these tv problems for an old CRT-(tv tube) design,tv have cold solders joints alots. If used like years in years out tv in used daily.U have a soldering iron,a roll of solders, can u do basic soldering also? Yes.Take the tv aparts resolder the FBT-the flyback tranformer, that the big black block of plastic with a red wire with a cap hook to a CRT-(tv tube). Also resolders the video board, that the board connect to the CRT-(tv tube) those pins sockets keep the video board and the CRT-(tv tube) together.Tv should be working again,if get these two soldering places parts resolders,FBT-resolders for stable tv high voltage.Video board pins sockets resolders for better joints connections between the video board and the CRT-(tv tube) connections.

On my 36in sony the picture goes in and out..from picture to black back and forth constiantly..im just clue less

a picture that blinks in & out every few seconds then it could be a bad tube.
I know the older models the picture would flash in and out with snow etc. that was a tuner problem.
haven't worked on very many sony wega's, maybe another tech here has a better ans.

When turning on the TV, I hear a banging/grinding sound.

Hi,

If you hear a grinding, whirling, spining or buzzing sound, that sounds to me like the COLOR WHEEL,the reason for that is because your color wheel spins at 5,000 rpms(revolution per minute) and something that modifies the balance of the disc can cause different things,Unfortionatelly the only way to check that the color wheel is working properlyis you need to check it out physically

I did some research and I found the color wheel at DM;http://www.discount-merchant.com/Samsung-Replacement-Color-Wheel-HLS-HLT-Series-p/samsungcolor_wheel_bp96-01579a.htm?CLICK=52978

Please keep us posted.

No picture or sound

It sounds more like a shut down circuit problem if you can feel static from the face of the picture tube after it tries to start up. There are several things that can trigger a shut down condition on TV's. For instance, if there is no vertical deflection signal present, the set may shutdown to prevent a permanent line being burnt across the front of the tube. If the power supply wasn't regulating the B+ voltage properly, it would shutdown to prevent damage in the horizontal sweep section. Or if the horizontal deflection circuit was defective and allowing the high voltage to climb too high (say above 33,000 volts) then the sensing circuit would trigger a shutdown event. If any of the above sounds like gibberish to you then you will need to take the set to a professional for repair.
