Westinghouse model 663T - not cooling fridge or freezer iced up, heater element checked ok, left 2days,defrosted and run for 4days, now same as before, suspect timer is faulty-where is it located?, also thermostat in fridge does not seem to work- no click of switch when rotated between cool and colder when fridge cold. Please help Thanks

Most likely going to be the defrost heater element or the defrost thermostat. Both are located behind the false back in the freezer and can be tested with a multimeter (Or just replace both if you don't have one, the parts are not too expensive). I cant recall the heater Ohm rating, but as long as it's not open circuit it is OK. Although unlikely to be the cause, if you want to double check the control board (If the heater element and thermostat test OK), you can simply use the diagnosis mode on this model.
First, switch fridge off at the power point for at least a few minutes, press the clock button on the display to ensure there is no residual charge in the system. Second, turn the fridge on and immediately press both "Fridge" and "Freezer" buttons simultaneously. Move through the test modes by pressing the "Clock" button, when the screen shows "def" the heater should turn on. It will start getting hot and melt any ice, if these parts are working.
The heating element, located behind the back plate of the freezer, is probably not working. A failed heating element leads to a build up of ice around the evaporator coils in the rear of the freezer. If the back plate of the freezer is removed (ONLY DO THIS WITH THE APPLIANCE UNPLUGGED FROM THE POWER SUPPLY) and there is a large build up of ice around the evaporator coils then it's a fairly good indication that the heating element is not working. The heating element comes on periodically to defrost/de-ice the evaporator coils. Heating element is often activated by a small timer switch which turns the heater on for a set time every 24 hrs or so. Heating element may be open circuit or timer switch may not be operating. Most likely to be open circuit heating element.
If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, ie defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow. You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model also check the termination switch inline with the elements
Generally on these models they rely on cold air being pumped fr\om the freezer to the fridge and have a adjusting device to control the flow, you need to locate and check this is free and working properly. Another reason for freezer ice up is a shortage of gas in the unit, this is usually unfixable as the leak can rarely be found as it usually occurs within the cabinet case. Sorry to say it would then be a throw away.
This is a bad design flaw, the fridhe is cooled by fan forced air from the freazer. Two ducts vent into and out of the fridge fron the freezer and ice can block them up (which you can find if you take off all the plastic at the top and back of the fridge). Hence, when they block up, the frindge does not cool, hence the thermostat tells the fridge to keep running which makes the freezer colder and colder, making the blockage worse.
You need to not only fully defrost the freezer (which can be done quicker by removing the plastic panel in the back of the freezer and using a hairdryer) BUT also fully dry the fridge before turning it back on. To stop it happening again, avoid puting unvovered liquids or hot items in the fridge. Also avoid leaving the fridge and freezer doors open for long especially in humid conditions. As I said, it's a bad design.
I had the same problem; the top fridge compartment was warming up to 14C while the freezer compartment was starting to defrost (frozen stuff was starting to become soft. I took the rear wall off the freezer compartment and found it all iced up. I defrosted it with a blower heater then powered it back up. It all worked fine for a month when the same thing happened. I figured that the defrost cycle wasn't working. I located the defrost timer on the rear right-side of the fridge. I rotated it several times and found that the fridge was turning on and off. I rotated it until the fridge turned off. I waited 5 minutes then stuck my head into the freezer compartment and felt the rear wall at the bottom where he drain is; it felt warm so I guessed the defrost heater element was ok. I ordered a defrost timer and installed it. I haven't had a problem since.
