Question about Sport & Outdoor - Others

1 Answer

I work in a fitness centre and we have schwynn bikes in our spinning studio. Customers keep complaining that some of the bikes are slipping?? Schwynn have assured us it is their technique and they are experiencing the safety mechanism not the bikes slipping? Please could you explain as I do not understand?? It would be great to have instructions if it is our customers technique for a correct smooth cycle on these bikes. Some of our customers have actually changed bikes and been fine?? Please help!!

Schwinn may be right in that the spin bikes have a "clutch" on the flywheel that would keep it from causing to much damage to your leg if you slipped off the pedals. Also as the bikes get used these can become worn and require rebuilding, so some bikes wear faster than others so one may seem fine and another slips. Get on the bike pedal forwards and try to stop then you can feel it and see which slip more.

Gears keep slipping

Have a trusted bike shop adjust the shifter cables. I'm told that all new bikes need to be re-tuned a month or 2 after purchase due to cable stretch.

Rear axle replace

screw 1 of the cone pieces(that fit bearings)tapered section towards centre of axle(about 3/4 inch), then slip 1 bearing case on axle from other end with bearing side facing centre. Then insert axle into hub and put bearing on other end(bearings facing middle)then cone.
**NOTE** Put small amount of bearing grease inside hub for bearings. Doesn't have to be bicycle grease- I use auto grease as you get 10times as much for same price.
Then adjust cones by hand untill there isn't any slack and axle centered. Then screw on thin nut(both ends), it acts as lock nut for cones. To tighten correctly you need a skinny spanner to hold cone while you tighten the skinny nut. Spanners from bike shop only cost about $2. Can adjust without a narrow head spanner by leaving a bit of slack when doing up cones and hopefully lock effect between cone/nut grabs before cones are over tight(a bit of messing around without a narrow spanner).
There shouldn't be any slack between axle/cones and wheel, wheel should spin freely.
Put wheel on bike then a washer(if you have any)outside frame, then larger wheel nuts.
Hopefully all your pieces have been used. HAPPY RIDING

hi as datatool offer limited information on your bikes wireing , you will have to find your self a wireing diagram for your bike and work out which colour on the machine goes to , speedo , tacho, live, earth, neutrol, the hard part will be teaching the gears as you have to run the machine on a stand in each gear to program the unit, which will be difficult to stabalise the bike, who did you buy the unit from can they not fit it for you, datatool websit gives you a list of aproved fitting centres in you area,

Immobiliser for the mx 125

if none Ins companies that do a single policy for 4 bikes in the UK . However Aprilia don’t fit a immobiliser well not on my 04 bike .Which means an extra £50 on my policy. So do you lot have one fitted are they worth it ? or pain in the bum. They are offering to current customers a Thatcham approved one for £179 with three year warranty fitted at home. In theory it should pay for its self in 4 years so sounds like a good move. Any thoughts ? ,I've a Meta 357T-V2 alarm / immobiliser fitted. Is it worth it? I doubt it, but I went with it, at least I can hear it if it goes off in the garage! At £299 fitted I'd have to keep the mx a while to pay for it. Does anyone here in the UK take any notice of an alarm going off? and what's the point of an immobiliser on a bike? Wheel it away to a waiting van and strip it down later.,,,
