Hi,

Based on your post and brief description, I can only suspect that there is an internal loose connection that eventually contacts better soon as the unit has sufficiently warmed up. It is also possible for a cold solder. More often, these may be found at the inverter board and/or the power board. To determine if it were a loose connection, try to tap on the rear of the LCD monitor soon as you have powered up and you PC has booted. There should be some sign of flickering images or the display would come and go. Should this be not the case, then the other possibility may hold true.

If the problem has been properly identified or whichever it may be, it would require that the unit be opened up for a look and see. Repairs may involve a bit of knowledge/familiarity with electronic components and circuitry, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. Should you not be comfortable doing a do-it-yourself, perhaps your best bet then would be to seek the services of a qualified professional..

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

My 1 1/2 yr old monitor simply stays dark. The 'on' lite comes on. thanks susanna

make sure the computer is on or starting up. Take a flashlight and hold it near one edge and see if you can see sort of a ghost image. It should look like your normal desktop but very faint. This will mean that your monitor back lighting has gone bad.

I've seen new monitors for $100 so it may not be worth fixing it as the parts can cost $60 or so plus the labor to fix. So you will want to check out any possibility of warranty or get repair estimates otherwise you can spend more than its worth.

Our Samsung LCD 40', whenever we switch it on, it just start clicking and blinking on & off. It takes 1 hour to finally display a picture on. It used to switch on within seconds!

Hello,

The problem on your monitor is a bad power supply. Because of heat buildup in LCD monitors2.gif parts called capacitors overheat and blow out. You can go to our web site at:
www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm and see what to look for. If you open your monitor and see blown capacitors that look like the pictures on our site then replace the bad ones and you should be back going. Email me if you have additional questions or if you need to get the capacitors, we carry them in stock.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Acer AL1917 Monitor does not start up immediately.

You'll need to have your power board -inverter redone.
The capacitors are starting to fail and that eventually will stop it all together.
I repair many monitors through ebay with these types of problems.
If you take it apart and send me a picture, I can usually see the problem areas.

It sounds like one of the capacitators inside the monitor is malfunctioning, these little things store a certain amount of necessary power and then discharge it when it is needed.  If it is malfunctioning, it could explain why it takes so long to charge, and why when you hit it, it suddenly comes on.

does your monitor have an external transformer as the psu ?
If so, try disconnecting at mains for about 5 seconds and re-connect. failing that we'll need to dig deeper.
