Hi,
Did you sign up for the surge protectors warranty with the company that made it? I think you have to register with them for claims. Anyway if you did, contact them about their repair procedure. If not, they may not do anything and you'll be on your own. That model of TV has a DM module youcan think of it as a computers motherboard. The DM reboots like a PC that's why it normally takes more than 1 minute to come on when power is lost.

When it sits there and just blinks the DM most likely is damaged. If you look at the front panel of tv where the buttons are you should see a tiny reset button.find a toothpick or other thin object and press it. It's a long shot but it MIGHT fix it. Otherwise the DM probably blew some caps and fuses.

That is not the easiest repair to attempt, I'd recommend a repair svc come out and give an estimate. It would probably be between $300-400v to fix. Good luck!

Try unplugging the TV, an hour later, now reset the TV back to Factory Settings. Now, the TV should be working properly now. Try a website like Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

I have a Mitsubishi projection model WS-B55 that is plugged into a surge protector. The power went off for about an hour or an hour and a half this morning, and the power light is flashing. I called...

First, to answer your last question, not all power outages and subsequent surges are created equally nor are all surge protectors. Also, after a power outage where the subsequent surge is so strong that it got past your surge protector and knocks out your TV and it's never done that before... REPLACE YOUR SURGE PROTECTOR.
However, that being said, in my experience it is unlikely that the TV is going to require a technician. Understand that the person that you spoke with in tech Support is not a technician and is reading off of a list of troubleshooting pages that are more extensive then what's in the manual. What the technician is probably not aware of is that your TV, like most home electronics, has a safety failsafe that requires the device to be separated from power completely before doing a system reset
First, after pressing the button it's supposed to flash for about a minute anyway but I'm assuming that after it's done pressing that the TV is still not firing up.
Unplug the TV, let it sit for an hour, plug it back in (to the wall, not the suspect surge protector). If the light is still flashing, press the reset button again and wait for it to stop flashing and attempt to turn it on again. If it doesn't work, unplug the TV, follow the same steps however, let it sit for 24 hours before plugging it back in. That length of time is not common but some sets do require it.
If none of this works, then I would say that it's time to call a technician.

Lightening storm, brief power outage. When power returned, my JVC

You have been affected by the lightning.

It is possible that your television may come back...

Un-plug the television and let is sit for an hour or more. Plug the television back in and allow it to re-boot. If it does not come back then, turn it on and off a few times to see if it gets any better.

Unfortunately, your TV may need repair or replacement. To avoid this in the future, use a good quality surge protector like Panamax .

Our electricity went out and now we have it back on

Most times when a power outages occur, most everything that's plugged into an outlet receives a "Power Spike". Basically it's a shock wave traveling through the neighborhood power grid when the electricity turns OFF and ON.
Hopefully the TV didn't receive too much damage. Inside the TV, there is a fuse that may need to be replaced. Radio Shack or other electronic store will carry these fuses. If this doesn't solve the problem, the Power Supply Board maybe damaged.

Whenever I have a really bad thunderstorm that ends up in a power outage my wii does the exact same thing...

I don't know what the cause is but what you should do is just unplug it for about 12 hours (about how long i leave it unplugged everytime), plug it back in and if it is the same problem as I have it should work fine (until another power outage...)

BUT if it still doesnt power up leave it unplugged for another 6 hours, after that if it still wont turn on id call nintendo and find out what the problem is...

This same problem happened to my 55511 about two years ago. It appears to be a software issue. I ran the built in self test and it corrected the problem. Have you tried this?
