Hi, this sounds like the main cmos battery inside the laptop is flat.
It is a thumb nail size battery that holds the settings for you bios where the time and date is adjusted.
To be honest, unless you know how to disassemble the laptop then i would advise you to take it to a repair shop.
Some time the cmos battery is located under the RAM section, but i can't guarantee it.

Hope this has helped in some way.

Every time I power on my laptop, the date and time is set to years ago. I've changed it to the correct date and time a lot, turn it off when I'm done, but it goes back once I turn it back on. I have a...

You need to change the internal clock battery. It's referred as a CMOS battery or a system battery. It will most likely be a silver button cell...either a 2016 or 2032. You will most likely find it by removing the main battery and one of the bottom access covers. After you change it, boot up to Windows and change the time and date. It should now retain the settings.

My Camera keeps asking me for the date and time every time I turn it on How do i stop this?

Press the m button during shooting or playback to display the setup menu. The setup menu provides access to a variety of camera settings, including options not listed in the function menu, display options, and the time and date. Once you have the date and time set it should stop asking.

1. In Set Up you must select the language you want to use by highlighting it then PRESS OK. If you don't do this then the date/time will not set.
2. When asked to set date and time you must select YES and press OK.
3. After completing each step you must press OK.
4. In the final step you must choose your preferred day/month/year display and then press OK.
If you don't press the OK button at each step the date and time will not set.

I have an Olympus 850sw and each time I turn it on it asks to enter the date and time. Why is that?

Most of the cameras with a date time clock have a secondary internal power source like a small watch type battery some point and shoot cameras use a storage cell which takes power from the main battery. This means when the main battery looses power the camera clock will hold a setting for about 1 day or 24 hours. To keep the camera clock set you need to keep a charge in the main battery. Here is a screen shot from the manual explaining this function.

Every time i turn my laptop on the time and date keep changing and going back nearly 3 years,i have been told it is the CMOS battery is this right?

Hi,

What you have been told is correct. When the real time clock battery (CMOS) runs out then the date and time will revert back to the day the bios was programed, in your case 3 years ago.

You can set the date and time while you are using Windows but each time you power the laptop down it will loose this information.

A quick workaround is not to power the laptop off but put it to sleep instead until you have got a CMOS battery for the laptop.

Regards.

Turns itself off every time I try to take a photo

I had a similar problem with my Cyber-shot S600. It just turned off every time I tried to take a photo. I bought a Sony recharger + batteries and it fixed the problem. Camera works fine and I'm impressed with the how long the batteries last between charges.

Camera won't turn on

Try replacing the date/time battery located in the main battery compartment. Also, simultaneously remove the lens. This will be like a master reboot for the camera. Replace the date/time coin battery, the main battery (freshly charged) and lastly the lens.

If this doesn't work, send it in for service. If you are just slightly beyond your one year warranty, Canon may allow a grace period especially if you can provide a receipt. If you can't find a receipt, give them the approximate date of purchase when you send in the camera. You will need to call them or set up service online.

Hope this helps!
