Question about Acer Aspire 5100-5033 Notebook
Hello, any help would really be appreciated. I have a 14 month old acer 5100 that will not boot up. When I try to boot up I get to the windows logo and it freezes. I have tried alt/f10 to use the recovery discs and when it says for me to wait I ended up waiting 3 hours and nothing happenned. I have also tried to boot it up using all of the options they offer and nothing happens.I took it to a shop ( I don't believe they knew more than I did) and they said they thought something was wrong with my motherboard or maybe the processor. I have already tried booting up in safe mode and every other option, but none work. I can't reinstall XP because my computer came preloaded and I don't have that disc, unless its on the recovery discs.
another thing you could try is download a linux live cd and boot off of it, that might work.

I know you won't belive the guys at the shop, but they are right. It's a hardware problem. See the hardware will need to be healthy to transmit poer and data. Lets start with a good powere supply. Change that. If it fails, it wont supply to the B/borad and Hd properly so software wont run. If the P/supply doesn't cut it, you are looking at another borad. There will be no software work on that thing until you replace bad hardware.
Sorry, and good luck to you.

At a glance it looks like a system problem, but hardware cause cannot be completely excluded.
To know it you will need to install windows fom xp disk, as your recovery disk may be cause for the problem. You can try downloading windows setup from torrent, only for testing purposes.Just be aware that some version may have viruses, then have a good antivirus active and always scan what you download before using it.
To use torrent easily you may need to download two programs:
the torrent downloader:
install both of them then put first 'windows xp' in the search software. If you find and download setup disk for the same system indicated in the licence sticker at the back of your computer (eg. windows xp home, windows media edition, windows vista home etc...) then you may be able to install the system with a valid licence, in this case I suggest to finish finding and installing the drivers and keeping the installed system.
