When u defragmented ur disc on pc , u might have been running any security software ( most likely ZONE ALARM ) in many cases which can acquire a permanent storage on ur hard disk which cannot be defragmented... resulting in this situation.....
Most possible solution : if ur able to restart pc then try to defragment again in safe mode other wise the only other alternative u will have to format disc and re-install the OS you have.....

How to defrag computer

When your computer writes information onto your hard drive, it does not always write information in the same location on the actual hardware. A section of a file can be written near the beginning of the disc, whereas the rest of that file could be written near the end. This causes programs to run slowly, as the computer spends time in retrieving these file clusters from all over the disc. Defragmenting your computer sorts all of your files [as well as free space in an orderly manner, in effort to reduce loading time.

My computer is very slow

Hi target to sp...
Try doing a Defrag of your Hard drive and also a disc cleaning.
Both will get rid of junk on your computer to make it run faster.
1...Left click on Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools> Disc cleanup
2...Left click on Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disc Defragment
Note: > means "next"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If that does not work then try restoring your computer to an earlier time when it was running fast.
3...Left Click on Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Restore

Dell inspiron 1525 when starting it says resuming windows then goes to hibernating with a little blue curser going around

Turn the computer off, remove the battery, make sure it is not plugged in to power, and hold the power button down for 10 seconds. Wait about a minute before re-installing the battery. If it does it again, hold F10 while the computer is turning on, this should bring you to the "boot select" menu, use the arrows on the keyboard and select "start windows normally" instead of "resume windows". When you get it started up run "Defrag" to prevent this from happening again.
When windows hibernates it saves everything in the ram to a "swap file" on the hard disc. Sometimes hard disc's get "bad sectors", this is considered wear and tear, it happens eventually to all drives. It sounds like there is a bad sector on your disc where the swap file is stored, so you have to start windows without using that part of the disc, then by running defrag the computer will find the bad sector and remember not to use it anymore.
Have a nice day.

reboot into safe mode. You can kill the power to the PC without shutting down. When you turn it back on it will ask you a few boot option, select safe mode, then try the defrag.

Have you defragged the computer within 30 days?
if not, do so.
Does your "C" drive (HDD) have more than 15% of disc space left? if not, get it back to a minimun of 15%.
Do not use the computer while defragging.

hey try doing this in safe mode.

If your computer is running Windows XP or Windows Vista

  1. From the Windows Start menu, go to Turn off computer and click Restart.
  2. As the computer restarts, watch for a progress bar at the bottom of the screen. press F8 about once every second.
  3. Immediately press F8 before the progress bar reaches the right side of the screen.
  4. From the Windows Start-up menu, highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.
  5. Wait for your desktop to appear, and then make the necessary repairs (for example, uninstall programs or devices).
  6. When the repairs are done, restart the computer, and allow it to boot normally.
