Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages.
Good Luck!

Shows different color complete blue or red scrren at connection

shake vga cable at different places & observe.........if colours becomes normal or it comes & again it goes...then vga cable is deffective.......either you have to change full vga cable or you have to repair that cable itself................after shaking cable also if no improvement then......hit your monitor lightly on left side or righr side or on top & observe ...........if colours becomes normal or it comes & again it goes...then following is the situation...............after 4 or 5 yrs in some monitors on main board at some soldering joints crack develops....then due to loose contact colour problem comes (1 of the sympton) ...........when we hit that lightly then those loose contacts joins temporarly & again colour comes nomally for some time............so solution is ......monitor main board & crt circuit board should be observed carefully & most of the joints should be re-soldered.......only a good service engineer can do that........even after hitting monitor lightly if there is no improvement then..following is the situation.....................on CRT circuit board ( circuit board that is fixed to tube) ''red green blue'' - video output IC ( some thing like LM2469TA ) will be there - it should be replaced - usually it will be fixed to heat sink ------- before changing IC all the components on CRT circuit board should be checked ( after switching off monitor ).........this problem cannot be solved by user unless user has idea about components( resisitors, transisitors, diodes,...etc) , have soldering iron , multimeter & other tools....................so contact good monitor service engineer .............iam from bangalore - 09986222774 - sathyavijayasarathibabu@ymail.com ( computers, laptop, printers, etc )

Broken vga cable

If the cable is to a CRT monitor this will require and new cable harness to be rewired to the main board of the CRT which will cost a lot to replace if the cable can be obtained usually not successfully due to the fact that most CRT monitors are manufactured in Asia.

13pins "from the inside monitor" "to the VGA 15 pins connector

hai dear,
i checked your problem and found that you open the cover of monitor and you find the two jack of data cable in main pcb and neck card( 2 connector of data cable).plz you cut the connector of data cable and you will find 8 wires in connector.related red(invild extra ground),green(invild extra ground),blue(invild extra ground),black gnd, white, orange, gold(extra gnd) and now you cut the red wire, you will find two wires.so you refix the main red wire pin no-1 of connector and red gnd pin no-6,green main wire pin no-2 and green gnd pin no-7,main blue wire pin no-3 and blue gnd pin no-8.check for the horizental sync and vertical sync wire you should go in main pcb which invild the other connector. there is present in print, h- sync(two wire of h- sync main wire in pin no-13 and other pin no-5) and ver.-sync wire in pin no-14.first you will check the whose h-sync and vert-sync in color and now finally other wires will fix any pin of connector.

Samsung 173S LCD monitor is dark

I had the same problem.
I opened the unit and checked all the caps- None were bloated or obviously in trouble. I checked the voltages on the two regulators on the green vga proccessor board. They should be 2.5 v out on the left on and 3.3 volts out on the right one and the input to the board is 5.1v from the main powersupply. The Power supply also supplies 12.4 v to the inverter for the backlight power.
These were all good.
I checked all these for reference for benifit of others. I expected the problem to be the video input/connector/opens related because without the cable connected the monitor functions thus the voltages should be good and the cpu/brains should also be OK.
Either the unit didn't detect the vga signal or was being forced into standby by some means.

After dissaembling the unit the monitor begain to function again, and then wouldn't after I reinstalled into the case agian.
I then found that the VGA board would work/not work with a slight flexing/warping of the board. The mounting screws and two clips bend the board when it is normally in place. I was able to listen closely to the vga proccessor board as I flexed it an could hear the pins on the Main Chip crackle. I looked very closely with a magnifing glass and could see that the pins on the side toward the VGA connector were loose- probably this batch of boards had a poor solder proccess and the connections were faulty.

I reflowed the solder on the main chip on the side toward the vga connector. Be VERY VERY careful these a extremely small pins. Have "good" solder wick available for the removal of blobs.

The Monitor now is again working and flexing the vga board no longer affects the operation of the unit

Good Luck.

Check signal message when data cable unplugged. blank screen when data cable plugged

This problem is most likely to be caused by a bent or broken pin on the CRT video cable at the VGA connector, OR, this could also be caused by a damaged VGA connector on the back of the laptop. If neither VGA connector is at fault, the problem could be caused a damaged (kinked) CRT data cable, or internal damage to the VGA connector on the back of the laptop, though I suspect the problem is more likely to be external, and you probably won't have to disassemble the laptop to locate the culprit...
