I lost my app for microsoft word 2010 starter, not the data. if i download open office will it open my word files?

Yes it will. After doing so you can select to open Microsoft files with it, or when you click on the file, as Microsoft won't work, it will ask you which program to open it with, choose Open Office and select the tick box to open all such files with Open Office. You shouldn't need to do it again, if it changes such files to the program icon for Open Office, instead of the Microsoft one.

DONT HAVE FILES TO OPEN MICROSOFT PROGRAMS

If you mean you have Microsoft Office installed but not the icons to open it, go to start -> control panel -> add remove programs -> Microsoft Offce -> Change. This will bring up the microsoft office setup. Click repair and follow the prompts.

If you mean you cannot open word documents etc. because you do no have Microsoft Office, there is an excellent free office suite called OpenOffice which will give you all the tools necessary to open these files. This can be downloaded from www.openoffice.org
