Red is 24volt power, white is load,I.E. relay,touch the red and wht wires together, the furnace should start, if it don't the problem is the heater, Rheat-Rcool you have a heat/ac thermostat, no ac forget Rc,try turning thermostat all the way up, dig up a multi-meter or powered light tester, touch Rh with one wire of tester,touch the other wire to different terminals until it lights,hook up your wires, you should have heat

RTH2310, want to install on at two wire system, i understand R to red W to white but this thermostat has a wire connecting the Rh and Rc. and cannot move the screws how do i install my R wire

Hello LEAVE the jumper wire in and connect the RED to either RH or RC with the jumper.You need the screw to loosen to secure the wire.If its impossible maybe solder the wire on to make it reliable.W=WHITE

Wiring problem?

Hi,
Yes to everything!!
You have it figured out!!
Just make SURE that the blue unused wire cannot touch any of the other wires, it will wreck your transformer in a split second.!

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

I bought a Honeywell programmable thermostat RTH2310 to replace my 10 year old Honeywell thermostat. My old thermostat is a 4 wire system but also has a jumper from Y to 1. New system does not tell me what...

It depends on the type of thermostat you have.
Do you have a 4 wire or 5 wire T'stat?
The red jumper wire was for a 5 wire t'stat with 1 transformer, the red jumper actually should have been from R to 1.
So you need to trace the wires back to the furnace and make sure they go to the locations identified below.
if you have a 4 wire t'stat then you don't need that jumper, if you have a 5 wire t'stat then you do need that jumper but it should go from Rh to Rc.
4 Wire Termostat
R = Red One Side of 24 volt Transformer
G = Green Blower
Y = Yellow Cool
W = White Heat
5 Wire Thermostat
with one transformer for both units
Rc One Side of 24 volt Transformer
Rh Jumper Rc to Rh
G = Green Blower
Y = Yellow Cool
W = White Heat
t'stat?

My husband just installed the Honeywell RTH2310 thermostat. The fan turns on, but the furnace does not. What's our next step? (It's a natural gas furnace and he made sure that it is on correct h/e setting....

need to make sure there is a jumper between RC and RH if the red wire is connected to the RC terminal the heat wont work you will need a jumper wire to tie the RC and RC together with the red wire.

My problem is....On my new Honeywell RTH230B thermostat the color code is Rh, Rc, W,Y and G. My wire colors are red, orange, blue, white and black. I can obviously match up 4 of them but where the heck...

First you are using abnormal wire colors for a furnace. Second.... if you have an air conditioner hooked up to this furnace, you will need to install a jumper wire between rh & rc. I am assuming this is a natural gas furnace. Usually the red wire to R terminals. Usaully the white wire to the W terminal. Take the door off of the furnace. Find the thermostat wire connection in the furnace. What ever color wire is on the R terminal in the furnace should hook to the R terminal on the t/stat. Whatever color is on the W in the furnace goes on the W on the t/stat. Whatever color is on the G terminal in the furnace goes to G on the t/stat. And the Y in the furnace to the Y on the stat. and the G in the furnace to the G on the stat. Most applications use only the R, W, G, & Y ( always put the jumper wire between Rh & Rc)
Good Luck
