Cameras and memory cards are really touchy with each other. It could be same kind of card required for each camera but some cameras just won't accept some brands of cards. Do check the metal terminals in the card slot to make sure they are not black, corroeded, sooted, or bent or broken. If they look ok, then try a different brand card.

Look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

I have pictures on my coolpix P80 that are showing on the camera, but they are not on the sandisc. Is there a way to transfer them from the camera to the disk? Help!!!!!! Jennifer

Hi,

Download your Nikon COOLPIX L18 User's Manual from this LINK. Read pages 75, 76, 89, and 90.
It will show you the steps in transferring/copying of pictures from the camera's internal memory into your memory card. Other functions are also available for reading.

I hope this works for you. Thanks for using Fixya!

I have a nikon coolpix p80 and i need to transfer pictures form the camera memory to the memory card.. how do i do it?

You can do it through computer, using a memory card reader or there are many new laptops are with a inside memory card reader too, then you can transfer pictures from the camera memory and to the memory card.

My pictures wont download from my Coolpix P80. Sometimes it works after a few attempts but sometimes it won't detect pictures at all.

Hi

The problem with you Nikon Coolpix P80 needs to be narrowed down as it could be down to few issues.

  1. Faulty USB Cable - Can only narrow this down by trying the other solutions below
  2. Faulty USB port on computer - try another port or another computer?
  3. Static build up on the USB port. Switch the computer off AND unplug it from the mains. Leave it like this for 30 minutes to allow any static to disipate.
  4. Corrupt memory card - If you have a card reader you could try and read the card from the reader. DO NOT FORMAT THE CARD IF YOU HAVE DATA ON IT YOU WISH TO RETRIEVE. If required you may need to format the card in a PC and then place it back into the camera and format it in the camera.
Hope the suggestions help.

Why wont my p80 allow me to format.

Your memory card is probably write-protected or if not it is busted. To verify if your memory card is locked you can easily remove it from your digital camera, and check for a small lever and set it to 'unlock'.
If this doesnt solve your problem, your memory card is probably corrupted/busted/defective.

Pictures will not load to memory card

first of all make sure you have choose the memory card as your default option to save pictures. if you are sure about this, secondly make sure your memory card is working. the golden boxes ( metal plates) in memory card should not be covered with dirt so make sure you erase the gold plate with a eraser(rubber) and make sure it is gold in colour and re insert it into your camera . else try with a different memory card

It says my memory card is right protected and wont let me take a picture

I am going to assume that the camera is using an SD memory card. Remove the memory card. On the side of the memory card there is a small gray (usually) in color that moves up and down, one postion ^ is for lock (write protected) the other is unlocked. Move the small slide, re-insert card and try again.
