Hello,

The 225BW monitor uses the same capacitor kit that the 214T monitor uses. You can order the repair kit at:
http://www.ccl-la.com/LCDrepair4.htm The kits run $12 including shipping. If you don't want to do the repair we do offer a repair service for $30 plus shipping.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Hello,

The brightness issues with this model are usually caused by a power supply that is starting to fail. There are parts called capacitors that start to fail, when this happens the power supply can not get to the correct voltage outputs that it needs to properly run the back light bulbs. This type of problem causes either the dim display that you have or a wavy display until the unit can stabilize the output voltage. It is repairable if you can do a little soldering. You will need to replace the 5 capacitors on the power supply board. Here is a link to a repair guide for that unit that shows what needs to be replaced.
http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/repairing-the-samsung-225bw-22-monitor/
This is an easy fix, about 15 minutes once you have the parts.

The monitor is probably on protection.

To start unplug monitor from power and from computer and test computer with different monitor to find out if it is monitor or computer fault.

If it is computer fault and no video signal , then test:

  • Video cable.
  • Video adapter on PC (sometimes integrated on motherboard)
  • Motherboard.

If it is monitor fault , then the monitor is on protection.

When on protection you keep having a flashing led on front of the monitor , and monitor turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or a broken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the monitor will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, faulty inverter board, faulty input board, or a fault on LCD Digital Controller board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

Try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

Please check the video cable and try it with another PC first.
If it is monitor:
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). My samsung 225BW only shows for one second after i open my computer. What should i do? Also if i turn the moniter off and on it will show for one second and disappear. What should i do? Thanks

It probably has bad DC filter caps just like the rest of failed SAMSUNG monitor as shown in my albums, that will be the first thing to look for.

Sounds like it could be a weak capacitor. Caps that are bad or weak will work after they warm up.

Steve from Monitor Technology. You need to open the monitor and locate the inverter board.
Remove 3 screws,turn the board over and locate 2 caps,C110 and C111.Replace,820UF/35V
this will fix this problem.
