Recently bought gps and everything was fine untill the other day I went to turn on the device and it got stuck on the initial screen which then should load the menu. Tried to use the standby button to turn off again and nothing happens. Have to use the on off switch to turn off. It still doesn't responsed in anyway, can not use touch screen or any buttons, it seems as though the standby button is stuck and causing the error. How to fix it! I have some experience with electronics and didn't get a reciept for product. So I will fix it if I can! Please help me!
Hold down Menu and Find buttons at boot, you will get a screen like this. That should tell you if your cornice drive is working or not. If it does not, then either you have to send the unit in to Garmin to fix for $275 or try fixing it by your self, I'm trying to fix one my self. I will post when I'm done either way :)

Your unit is in calibration mode. There
should be a black dot to press on the calibration screen. Keep pressing
the dot as it moves around the screen, you may need to press very
firmly and use a stylus until it says calibration complete. This
usually occurs when a unit is dropped or left in extreme temperatures or
jammed it a glove box or console with things jammed against the screen.
It could also occur if you are touching the screen as you start. Thanks for using FixYa
Try resetting your device. Depending on the model you have, this is done by either using the pin or holding down the power button for about 15 - 30 seconds. You'll know the reset has been successful when the legal agreement come up when it comes back on. Once this is done, go outside and on the device, go to the satellite detail screen and wait until several (about 4) of the bars are 75% or higher (they should change colors). You should go the the regular screen after that and you should be able to navigate again.
There is gaps in the mapping in all states....a new version of software is due out soon, there has not been an update for quite some time(over 14months I have heard) There is some suggestion that you can update the operating system and then almost all the other brands of mapping will work??? I like Tom Tom myself it has some fantastic features like being able to play the route in demo mode in a fast speed to see where you are going. And putting in an alternative route, selecting streets with one key touch mode etc etc
How long are you waiting and are you moving while it is trying to acquire signal? These receivers are using older circuitry that may take up to 20 minutes to first acquire a signal from a cold start. If you are moving it may take longer!!! The good news is that after you have initially acquired a location, if you turn the unit off it will only take a minute or so to reacquire after it has "warmed" up.
Have you gone through the "Initialize" process again? If the memory has been cleared you will need to re-initialize. Refer to page 4 of your manual.
Power On > Select Language > "ENTER" > INITIALIZE screen > "ENTER" > Select Region > "ENTER" > Select Area > "ENTER" > Enter Elevation > "ENTER" (if you don't know elevation, press enter) > Enter Time > "ENTER" > Enter Date > "ENTER"
