Question about HP Pavilion tx2500z Notebook

1 Answer

Ok..So I've had my tx2500 for a little over a year now (go figure, the warranty's out). After I booted up today, I went online and after a few minutes, the screen went pixel'y' and then went blank. The lights on the monitor were still blue and the computer was still running. I unplugged the power cord and the computer shut down then restarted. The screen was working, but after I logged in to windows, the screen was just black with the mouse pointer visable. I pressed the start menu button, then it flashed bright pixels and went black yet again. I shut it down a second time, took off the battery for a few, put it back on and restarted. Nothing. It runs and I can hear it booting, but nothing! I've tried using an external monitor, but that didn't work either. This is the first problem I've ever had with my computer!! Any suggestions?

Okay, the screen only worked after the first time I rebooted. Now it's completely black, not showing anything upon initial startup. So, I should try spinning the monitor? Also, if I plug an external monitor in, and it shows black as well, what should I do? Is there a key or something I have to press in order to switch from my laptop monitor to an external? Thanks!!

OH, I don't know if this has anything to do with anything. But when I turn the computer back on, all of the lights are lit blue. On the screen with the DVD lights, etc. My Caps lock (which was not on) And num lock (which also, was not on) are lit blue as well. The volume keys are also all blue, even though I had the volume muted. I don't know if that means anything? But this is fairly aggravating, considering I have all of my writing projects on there :(

Ah..that's what the monitor symbol means on the f4 button, haha. Okay, so I'll try holding down the function key with it. Thanks! Nothing has ever been spilled on the keyboard or on the computer. I know the battery is shot and it needs a new one. Can I just use the AC power cord and take the battery off to get to my files if the external monitor works this time? You're awesome! Thanks a ton.

  • cooki3_metho Jan 31, 2010

Okay, nevermind. The keys aren't responding, so I can't switch to an external. Even when I try to hit control alt del to reboot, nothing happens except for the fan revving higher. Oh well, it was worth a shot. Guess it's time to replace this piece for a MAC. Thanks for your help! I'm going to wait until my husband wakes up so he can take out the hard drive, I don't want to mess anything up. Again, thank you! Enjoy your night.

  • cooki3_metho Jan 31, 2010

Will do. I'll look into it, but I'm still getting a Mac! haha. I do have another laptop that uses an external because the screen is all messed up from the adventure of being thrown thru a wall. Thanks again, you've been a big help even though I couldn't figure out how to solve it. I appreciate your time and input.

There is something wrong with the video driver or the monitor...If the screen shows something like the devices when it boots up...and only goes blak when it logs to windows...I mean if you see all on the screen until you get to the windows logo..this is a operating system error ..a driver seting or crash...so ...just reinstall it ..or repair the operation system ..cause if it is a setting on video driver or a error ..you can not fix it if you do not see anything ..
if the system boots but you never see a thing on the monitor...not even the writen devices when it first starts..or the bios..this means that the screen or the ribbon of the monitor has a damage on..try to change its position...or so ..but in this case you will need a ribbon for sure ...

    For example, often either Fn + F3, Fn + F5, Fn + F8, or Fn + F9
is pressed to switch between alternate displays. So if your laptop was
Fn + F3, pressing and holding both Fn and F3 at the same time would
switch between displays. Often, the alternate key pressed in
conjunction with the Fn key will be labeled as CRT/LCD and/or have a
picture of a monitor on the key or close to the key. Unfortunately, the
keys pressed to switch displays is dependent on the model and
manufacturer of the laptop. If none of the above key sequences work,
consult your laptop documentation or consult your laptop manufacturer.

    Some
laptops also have the ability to have the display on both the laptop
and external display and/or one or the other at a single time. Laptops
with this ability can switch between these modes by continuing to press
the same function keys until in the mode the user wants.
So ..just connect it ..and if it is not a driver issue ...try them one by one...reboot between them if you ar enot sure
cause trying you may run something else...also try fn+f4

yep ..this should not be happening
it may be a keyboard issue ...try to go to bios if it lets you ..but if all the lights are on ...better get assistance from someone that knows his way around..I suspect the keyboard being shorted or something liquid on i t...IOt all sounds like a short and I would not power it anymore if i was in your place..
anyway ..do not worry for the projects...there are all on the Hdd and until you fix the problem ..just remove the hdd and plug it in another computer as a slave...if you do not have another laptop..it works with a desktop too but you been a rack or another adapter ...the best is a rack to make it usb compatible ..and plug it external into a desktop..

Im not sure it is something wrong ..it mightt be just the video card ...cause if it wasnt ...it should get on the second monitor out ...anyway the fact the all lights are on is not a good sign ...
just get the hdd and go somewhere to get the data from it ..its just a plug and copy operation ..than you should have it checked cause if you hear it boot on windows..its just a graphic problem and its not that expensive to fix...

My mobigo is not recognizing cartridges . . . it acts like it is re-booting when I push the cartridge game option. The game works in the other mobigo we own. What now?

Called vtech today about mostly unused mobigo not identifying cartridges, they told me the toy is defective. It was a mobigo 1, which had a year warranty. We bought it too early for my son and it sat on a shelf for almost two years. We bought another from a craigslister whose son never used it only to find the same issue upon opening. Vtech suggested we purchase the Mobigo 2, but I am against doing so after finding out those only have a three month warranty. Quality control isssue?????

Vizio wont turn on!!

I have this problem. Bought at Costco. Called them and was transferred to Vizio. TV still under warranty, so they are supposed to get me another TV. Mine is only a little over a year old. The one they are giving me is NOT new, but refurbished. I'm not happy about this, but what can I do? Apparently, this IS a KNOWN problem.

GE microwv-doesn't heat, strong electrical smell, all else ok

The most common problem would be your magnetron. Check your purchase date, magnetron's usually have a five year warranty. Not a part I recomend trying to fix yourself (high voltage ).
