Question about Sony VAIO VGN-A270P Notebook

1 Answer

I was gifted with a Sony Vaio VGN A270P laptop. What I "want" to do is max the RAM out to the 2GB that is allowable and replace the hard drive with either a solid state, or "standard" 360GB hard drive then load a linux OS and use the machine for school, iPod management, internet surfing and various other lightweight uses . This is the thing, as I understand it, 100GB was the largest drive that was available with this particular machine. Is what I propose doable? And if so....any suggestions as to particular sources, pitfalls, and other errata I would need to be aware of?

Hi, own a Sony Vaio VGN P530H with hardisk Toshiba MK6028GAL damaged. as forced to replace unit, wonder could install a higher capacity? Brand & model if available please!!! thanks to all of you!!!

The VAIO VGN-T350 is a notebook computer designed and distributed by Sony.
The hard drive on your Sony VAIO VGN-T350, which is the unit that stores data, consists of many clusters of data that can be rewritten with new data.
If you are looking for a memory capacity upgrade, or if your old hard drive is having errors, it's time for an upgrade.
Upgrading the hard drive on your Sony VAIO will require the use of a screwdriver and will take you about 30 minutes to complete.

Turn off your Sony VAIO VGN-T350 and remove the power cord and any other peripheral components.
Turn over your Sony VAIO VGN-T350 and locate the hard drive chamber on the bottom of your laptop. It will be clearly labeled.

Use the screwdriver to remove the screw holding the lid in place.
Gently lift the hard drive and its cage away from your laptop and disconnect the data cord.
Remove the four screws located at the corners, and then remove your old hard drive from its cage.
Place your new internal laptop hard drive into the cage and replace the screws.
Connect the data cord to your new hard drive and place your new hard drive into its chamber.
Close the lid and replace the screw to complete the operation.

Ebay this hard drive should fit there are smaller capacity drives that will be compatible.

Display flickers on boot. then goes black

Before making any decision on whether it's a hardware failure, please try and boot from a CD or DVD (recovery disc). If it does successfully boot from an external disc - and there is no flickering problem, then the hardware parts are okay. In that case, please go to this link: http://lifehacker.com/5413223/how-to-fix-your-relatives-terrible-computer?skyline=true&s=x for more information on what to do when you can't enter into your operating system and how to fix malwares that might be causing the flickering. If you find my ideas satisfactory, please do rate me. Thanks
