The tension in my sewing machine does not work. It does not move when I am sewing as if thread is tangled and when I turn it manually with the wheel the thread breaks. I have followed step by step instructions to make sure it is threaded right, checked my bobbin and tried sewing on all tension levels and nothing works....Please help

Well the tension is stationary it does not move. The only moving parts are the plates that bind the thread in between. For your brother machine, the tension plates are inside the housing so you cant really touch them. As for your problem, it sounds like you might be threading your machine incorrectly. Make sure the spool is properly seated and that thread flows smoothly when pulled by hand. You can post your problems at my website and i can try to help you.

My top thread is getting tangled up in the bobbin case area, even when hand turning the wheel with the bobbin and case removed; trying to fix a serious tension problem.

First, install a brand new needle.

Remove the thread from the machine. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct and that the bobbin is loaded and threaded correctly. Set the top tension to the midway point--you'll probably need to tweak the tension for your particular machine.

Bring the bobbin thread to the top of the fabric (manually with the handwheel). Then gently hold both thread tails in your left hand while you begin to slowly take the first couple of stitches.

If you are still getting thread barfs in the bobbin area, your machine may be out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

I have a kenmore made by Janome model 385.19106900 and just recently started getting a bad tangled mess in bobbin area and thread breaks, I have changed bobbin, needle threaded rethreaded changed tension...

Check the upper tension discs for lint: Raise the presser foot to open up the discs and blow or 'floss' between them. Any lint or thread in there will prevent them from giving the proper tension.
Good luck!

My thread keeps breaking when I sew

Tension is maladjusted. There is a tensioner on the front of your machine. If it is too tight (turned clockwise) the thread will break. Also could be the bobbin has tangled. Remove it and check for tangles.

I am using my new brother CS-60001 sewing machine for the first time and I can't stop the bobbin thread from tangling. I feel the machine is threaded correctly, the bobbin thread is tightly wound and...

Hi. You "feel" that the machine is threaded correctly? You should probably completely pull the thread out and start over, making certain that it is threaded correctly. Once that is done, double check to make sure the thread is pulled all the way into the tension discs. Make sure also that you have lowered the presser foot. Is the bobbin inserted in it's case correctly? Every aspect is critical to proper function. You may also want to revue your manual.

My bobin thread gets tangled and loose

have you checked the tension? In the older machines you could adjust the thread tension by tightening the screw on the side of the bobin case. With alot of the newer machines you have to lift out the bobbin and then lift out the casing to adjust the screw on the underside of the casing.

Thread tangled in the bobine

I had this same problem yesterday. I took apart the needle tension casing and now it doesn't get tangled or stop. The only thing is the bobbin is not sewing...it looks fine on the top, but the bottom is just loose loops.

Thread tangling up under guides at bobbin area

Remove the thread from the machine and rethread it . Raise the presser foot before you pass the thread through the tension assembly. Do a tension test.
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} Tension assembly test. To do this test. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.)
If it doesn’t work this way then you probably have a piece of thread or lint stuck inside the tension discs. To remove it, turn the tension to 0 zero and raise the presser foot.Using a small screwdriver, open the space between the discs and spray with canned or compressed air. The stuff should come out. Do the tension test again to make sure you got everything and then try sewing again.
Normally, what you are describing is a threading problem or a tension problem.

Looping thread on backside.

I have a 26 year old Elna and this is the only weakness it has. Before sewing, try this. Turn the wheel manually and watch the upper thread pick up the bobbin thread. Pull both back to the left. Make sure they are plenty long. This helps me prevent the tangling in the dogfeed. My Elna has a universal tension on the bottom and I haven't ever had a problem with it unless the top tension is too tight.
