Question about E-Machines T5088 PC Desktop

Trouble updgrading to Windows 7

I tried to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate and it gave me some sort of error like not recognizing my HDD! I restored Vista Home Basic and tried clean install. Same issue. It acts fine, allows me to set user name, password, and time zone, then it gives me error. Tried live chat on eMachines site and they were useless. Told me this system is not "compatible" with Win 7. WTF? Ridiculous. Hopefully someone here has the answer or already upgraded their T5088 to Win 7. Compatibility Wizard said all was good on my pc for upgrade, clean install, 64, & 32 bit. I'm at a loss.

Well, I ended up just doing a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate and got no issues whatsoever! Just to let you guys know, be sure to research all your drivers beforehand, especially SATA drivers if you need 'em. Some Windows installations won't recognize your SATA drives and will ask you for them when trying to look for your hard drives.

All is fine up to that point into the setup because it's generic up to that point. The chipset on the motherboard is not supported by windows 7 at this point. It is not the harddrive that's not compatible but is the chipset in the board that supports the operation of the drive. The compatibility wizard is causing all kinds of problem for MS. It could just be one little chip in the board that is hanging up your install. There are many topics if you Google Windows 7 forced install. People are saying some forced installs are working and some are not. Good luck

I lost my product key for my windows ultimate after upgrading my Toshiba laptop. I put in the product key I had and it gave an error message that said I was missing a license.

First, when you upgraded, did you upgrade the Toshiba to Windows Ultimate or from Windows Ultimate to something else? Second, from where did you get the key you used? Since operating system keys are often specific to the system it may be that the key you used is not allowed to be used on your Toshiba.

The best solution to this problem is to turn the computer over, look at the COA (Certificate of Authenticity), note what it says the original operating system was, get a cd for that and re-install the OS for which the system was designed. Then if you want to upgrade to Vista Ultimate or any other OS, you need only purchase the upgrade for your system. Whatever "key" you purchased or possessed, would have been on a COA which, generally speaking, must be then affixed to the system per the license agreement. So if it wasn't affixed to the system then you didn't have a legal operating system an whatever problems you have are to be expected. Sorry.

The computer stopped loading up and just went to black screen at first even in safe mode this happened and I was unable to do a system restore. After eventually getting it to safe mode and getting a system...

You will need to make sure that both versions of windows 7 are the same. The one that was previously on your laptop had to have been Windows 7 ultimate as well or the product key will not work. If it is a different version you will have to get the DVD for that version of windows 7 to get the product key to work. If it was windows 7 ultimate that you had on your laptop, then you need to call Microsoft and tell them that the product key isn't working. Since you likely had an OEM version of windows 7 on your computer it might not work with a generic install of the OS automatically. By calling microsoft they would sort out the issue and allow the activation to go through.

Cant adjust my laptop display brightness.. i am using windows 7 64-bit OS... i have recently upgraded to 64-bit os, it used to work properly earlier.. the slider to adjust also does not work. I have tried...

I suggest try to Adjust the BIOS Brightness Mode Control into User Control and see if you able to adjust the brightness inside your OS. If not try to do system restore and go back to the time that its working.

I have an Acer Extensa 4620z, i can't load the OS, i've tried with XP and Win7 and there's an error, i tried to change the setings in BIOS, but there's not any option to change anything about the SATA or...

yes quite right.. when u start the install process I'm sure you noticed that it asked you to press F6 to install any 3rd party RAID / Sata drivers.. these can be downloaded from the manufactures web site..

what concerns me is that windows 7 Ultimate has these drivers built in!!! did u try windows 7 ultimate ???? not the OEM version that ships with systems ,, use a full version..

also DO a full format not a quick format.. when win 7 or xp instillation boots,, delete all partitions and do a full format..
if that fails u need to replace the hardrive,, A dead harddrive will give the same error!!!

Take a look here:

If that does not help please write your hdd model (Usually on a sticker on top of HDD)
What size is the partition the installation detects?
