emachine T2778. have made sure bios is set to cd. neither cd/dvd drives will start the install process.

  • livedonor Jan 31, 2010

no software came with the new hard drive. the only disc I have are the three restore disc that came with the computer.

  • livedonor Feb 01, 2010

the recovery disc are not working. The bios is set for boot from cd but it will only go so far and then doesn't install os.

  • livedonor Feb 01, 2010

When the computer is started without a disc in the drive, Biostar logo comes up on the monitor, which I'm guessing is the motherboard that is in the computer.

1st Option: Go to BIOS level and select the CD/DVD device is the first device for boot option and then insert the recovery CD/DVD to format or install OS.
2nd Option: If recovery CD/DVD got curropted and you are having the other OS CD/DVD, then try to load and format or install the OS. Also try to download the recovery image from vendor website.

Look inside your windows, Click the Start button and then select "All Programs" and then "Accessories" and then "System Tools" and finally select "Backup" Your computer has a recovery partition from which to perform a complete system recovery. You will need three blank CD-R discs to complete your backup. You can also order the original restore CD from emachines (owned by Acer) if your are scratched up or damaged.

When you first start the computer with a new drive, you must boot the computer with the software that came with the hard drive. This software has the drivers for the hard drive and most importantly, it has the utility to "Initialize" the drive and then format and partition it. Once the drive is "Initialized", then the restore discs can be used.

Can i format my HD on an external bases with my laptop, then install it back into my pc. my hard drive crashed and i need to get it to boot. i dont have the boot disk

Technically, YES, the hard drive can be formatted as an external (with the appropriate equipment) on your laptop (if there are still files on it, you may even be able to extract them from it) but it still won't be bootable because it does not have an operating system on it.

That would be the part where you need the recovery disc. Windows setup programs from these boot discs already have the format utility so if there aren't any files to extract from the drive, you can skip to reinstalling Windows on the desktop and formatting it in the process.

Bottom line is that you need a Windows installation disc to make the hard drive bootable again, regardless of where you format it.

Format WD laptop hard drive in Emachine laptop

Normally when u restore, formatting is being done at a certain step. Therefore no need to worry as the OS is included in the recovery. However if it's exactly how u r stating, therefore buy an external 2.5" HDD casing, insert ur HDD in it, plug it to the USB of any computer or laptop & get it formatted.

Can not get pass set up, place where you name the computer, have run restore cd

Hello there , let put things in order:
1) That is is your PC DISC? RESTORE CD?
2) If so, just run the Restore CDs, and use DESTRUCTIVE FORMAT/ and restore the OS from CDs and SYSTEM PARTITION. **
it is supose to work.
other than this, may be a defective hard disk, use warranty, or have to replace that hard drive. ** be sure you got a full recovery CDS.
GOOD LUCK

Emachines t5212 system restore backup files, please help!!

Hello,

If you only your files to be copied in the other or any storage disk then you can remove the hard disk of your machine and then attached it to the other functional machine. in there you can browse and copy all the important files. after copying all your files then you can take back the hard drive to your non functional machine and then install new operating system. documentation found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941

tell me if something wrong with your system when applying the solution.

Need to replace hard drive on T2778 Emachine.

You need memory modules with maximum 1Gb DDR 333Mhz.
For HD you can select whatever you like.

Just replace memory modules, install your new hard drive (if it is IDE set as master).
After that get in to the BIOS (normally press DEL when boot the computer) and from boot order select as first the CD-DVD ROM and as second the Hard Disk.
Put at the CD Device the CDROM with the windowsXP and restart the computer.
The guide to install windows XP is very clear but if you have more questions post again.
