I use to repair them , but you can buy a used one for
50.00 at game stop, so you goat ask your self a question.
Buy a use one or buy a new laser for 30.00-40.00 and hope that
it fixes it.Before you do that clean the laser with a Q-tip slightly damped
with Windex . use a twisting motion with the Q-tip then with
the other side dry the lens and give it a shot, also wipe your
games down with lemon fresh pledge , this will fill in the small
scratches with wax and make the disk a little more readable.

If you have any Questions feel free to ask.

I need some help with my ps 2 it has been giveing me these disc read errors and i toke it apart from the memory card holders to the fan in the back of my system the only problum is i dont know how to open...

Hi there,

You don't want to open the disc drive, you want to clean the laser lens. That's the part that looks like this:
http://www.gamekool.com/ps2-laser-lens-pvr802w-p-307.html

If cleaning the lens doesn't resolve the problem, that same website also has a means of purchasing a replacement. If you just want to clean the inside of the disc drive, put the PS2 back together and open up the tray.

Clean everything with a cotton swab, including the laser lens.

Hope this helps.

PS2 wont play DVD movies!

Hi. It seems that you might have an old version of the PS2.

The original PS2's had a problem with the laser that read CDs and DVDs, often failing, creating problems with reading DVDs and in rare cases, CDs.

Unfortunately, the class action lawsuit filed against Sony is too old to get yours fixed for free, but there are ways to attempt to fix the laser yourself, if you would rather not send it in to Sony.

Ps2 will not read play discs

The laser lens on the drive is most likely Dirty, if your outside of warranty take the ps2 apart. open the top of the drive, use a q-tip with alcohol 70% or just water, I've personally done this a few times with just water not having the alcohol around.

Use the wet end of the qtip to clean the lens and the dry end to dry the lens.

Ps2 will not play disc of any kind.

try this:
clean the laser lens with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol (not dripping).
gently touch the q-tip to the laser lens and gently twirl the q-tip.
use the other side of the q-tip to dry the lens.

hope this helps :D

PS2 not reading disks

Your lazer lense has bit the dust. Depending on your model type the first gen systems lazers are very easy to replace. The later versions sony made it harder to replace. You can find out what model you have by looking at the back of your PS2 then you can either call sony or go to there website and find out what generation PS2 you have. Then go from there. Hope this helps

PS2 wont spin games

if it reads the silver ones it should read the other i would have said change the laser but as you have done this i could be that it has over heated and their is no way of curring this have you tried playing the blue ones on another ps2 if this is not the problem then their is nothing you can do other than sell yours for spares or buy a broken one you can get them off ebay cheap as you no your laser works usually the one people sell that dont work is the laser so you could put the laser into the one you buy then you should have no probs sorry this isnt nothing else you can do

My PS2 Slim plays music, black and blue discs, but doesn't play silver discs nor DVDs.

Is this a new problem or has your PS2 always had this issue? You cannot adjust the laser at all and are likely to damage it if you try, you can however clean the laser lens with a CD/DVD cleaning disk and you'd be surprised how often this resolves disk read issues. Some of these units did have a production fault that prevented them from reading DVD's, if your PS2 has had this fault since new and/or is under 12 months old you could probably have had it repaired/replaced by Sony but by opening it you will have invalidated you're warranty.
