    Canon CanoScan LiDE 60

My Canon CanoScan Lide 60--which has always worked just fine until now--is not recognized as ON within any application, including Canon's CanoScan Toolbox. When I go to my Vista device settings, the scanner is recognized, but shows as unavailable for communication. All instructions request that I check the cable or turn the device ON. Since there is no ON option (if it's attached via the USB, it is on), this recommendation doesn't fix the issue. It seems the cable is an unlikely culprit, since the device is actually recognized and un-recognized when I connect and remove the cable. So, I thought maybe it was just an old driver issue. I removed and replaced all drivers and tools associated with the scanner. No luck.

    Anyone find a solution?

Hi styrimenn,

I see that the LiDE 60 is powered by USB. Thus it draws all its power from USB and requires no power adapter to function. As you certainly know there's currently two versions of USB, namely
USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (with a third, USB 3.0 in development).
The difference between the USB versions is such that
USB 2.0 is faster and provides greater electrical power
to attached devices than USB 1.1.
I see from
http://www.canon-europe.com/For_Home/Product_Finder/Scanners/Flatbed/canonscan_lide60/index.asp that the LiDE 60 requires the power output of a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed bus. This means that if you plug the scanner into a USB 1.1 bus, the scanner will not get the required amount of power to function.
If your PC doesn't have on board USB 2.0 ports, a PCI USB 2.0 adapter may be installed in a open PCI expansion slot on your motherboard to provide your PC with USB 2.0 functionality.

You need to download the drivers for the LiDE 60 at
http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010220.asp
(select your operating system and language). You can download the
CanonScan Toolbox
Deldrv, and
ScanGear SC
to ensure software communication between your PC and scanner

Hope you find this information helpful in solving your scanner's problem and thanks for using the FixYa service
Kind regards

How to get the Canon LiDE 60 scanner to work in Lion OS?

Hi. If the scanner is not working through 'Image Capture' or though it's own Canon software, then the best option is to download VueScan from Hamrick Software.
He keeps it updated more frequently that the manufacturers do.

CanoScan LIDE 60 flatbed scanner software

You can download the necessary drivers here:
http://www.driverfiles.net/Scanners/Canon/CanoScan-LiDE-60/download/page,sh,39262,430,11,.html

and the manual, in case it is missing, here:
http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/CANON/CANOSCAN-%20LIDE%2060-_E

It shouldn't be necessary to download the 'Recommended' "DriverDetective." I believe this is a commercial program.
