Question about Emerson ET-20F7 19" TV
There are several possible reasons. The light-emitting end of the remote, or the remote sensor window on the TV, may be dirty. The light-emitting diodes in the remote may be misaligned from dropping the remote control, or they aren't putting out as much light as they should. The TV may have another light source shining on it that prevents it from picking up the remote signal until it gets very close. The remote sensor in the TV might be bad. Or there may be an interfering signal. As more people start using compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) in their homes, they sometimes find that remote controls begin acting strangely. It's also possible the replacement batteries you put in are weak, so you might try another set.
Sorry I can't tell you which of these is most likely. I've seen them all many times. Try another set of batteries first, then try a universal remote to see if the problem is in the TV or the remote.
Good luck! Hope this helps, and thanks for using Fixya!
