You will have to get a new one.
I did accendently did this when I was trying to fix the drive in my Dell Inspiron 2200.
What happened on mine:
1. Over time, my laptop's dvd drive was getting harder and harder to open.
2.One day it didn't open at all but the paperclip thingy didn't work, so I had to use my pen knife but that snapped the cable.
I had to get a new one from ebay.

Does anyone know how to open and fix a stuck optical drive tray so it will open? And, is the a way to fix optical drives so they will read cd's and dvd's again?

There is a little hole on the front of the drive. Inside the drive, behind that little hole is either a mechanical release, or an electrical switch, that will cause the drive to open. First, straighten out a paper clip. Turn off power to the drive. Firmly press the paper clip straight into the hole. The drive should open. If not, turn on power to the drive and try the same thing.

My dell studio 1435 laptop is not opening its cd drive, i cannot insert cd/dvd on it. thanks!

Hello. Find a paper clip. Bend it open so it is flat and straight. On your CD Drive you will see a little hole that can fit the paper clip. Fit the paperclip in the hole and push. This will manually eject your CDRom Drive. Thanks for using FixYa!

Cannot remove dvdrw on acer aspire 5720z

If the button on the side of your laptop will not open the drive then you can try two things.

1. click start at the bottom left of your desktop (7 and vista will be a windows logo) then click computer. A list of hard drives and cd/dvd drives will show up. hover over the dvd drive with your mouse and right click. Then click eject, the tray should open.

2.Get a paper clip. located on your dvd drve cover is a small hole just big enough to fit a paper clip in. Push the paper clip in and pull it out it should pop open the drive.

Dvd got stucked

Straighten a paper clip and stick it in the little hole next to the release button. Push in about 1/4 inch until it makes a click and the dvd drive door is opened. Laptop does not have to be powered on.

It won't eject.

I assume you are talking about the cd/dvd drive. Almost all of these drives have a tiny little hole in the cover. This hold is just big enough for a straightend out paper clip.

Turn off and unplug the pc. For laptops remove the battery. Then push the paper clip gently into the little hole and the drive should open a little. Don't force it open. If it doesn't open easily, you probably have a cd/dvd inside that is hung up. Gently turn and/or shake the pc/laptop to see if you can free up the cd/dvd.

Will not eject DVD is working is stuck I think I might need to open laptop

Power down the laptop and restart it. As soon as it restarts press the open button on the dvd drive and it will open. You may have to try a few times but it will work.

Unable to open DVD drawer

If you take a paper clip and straighten it, there is a little hole in the front of the CD drive, push the paper clip into it and your CD drive will get pushed open. This will get a CD out, but will not fix it.

Try re-seating, or connecting a different power cable to the back of the CD drive. Does your PC even recognize that the CD drive is present?

Most of the time the CD drive needs to be replaced.... they are very cheap.

DVD DRIVE

There is a small hole in the front of the drive next to the button, this hole is the manual release. Use a paper clip, push it into the hole and the slide will release. If the disc is jammed, you may need to pull slightly on the slide when pushing with the paper clip.
