Carburator problems, the float is stuck wide open. You'll need it rebuilt by a small engine repair shop.Or you can purchase a new one for between $50 and $75.

Is the carb flooding?is there black smoke coming from exhaust when running, if so it could be the carb over filling with fuel. Is there petrol leaking out of the carb? If not check the fuel pipe is in good condition

Mower starts and runs but has no power acts like its flooding it burns a lot more gas can barley pull it self

Sounds like maybe the choke is stuck closed. If you remove the air filter the choke is the first butterfly valve you can see. The throttle looks similar but is a inch or so deeper into the carb, and you can't see that unless the choke is open. Try removing the air filter and starting the mower. It might run just a little better without the air filter since it will get a bit more air, but if the choke is stuck it still won't run right. But you will be able to see if that's the problem right off. If it runs great without the air filter, and the choke is not stuck, then the problem is a clogged air filter and you need to replace it. Good luck, Al K

My lawn mower is surging and spark plug is black is this lack of air briggs& stratton . plus runs ok when running out of petrol /????

Are you running it with the choke on? Also if the air filter is dirty it will do that as well. Black plugs means it's getting too much gas and is not getting the proper air to burn properly. Some engines if you rev them up with the handle right as fast as it will go automatically the choke is on.

I ran over my gas cap and it killed the mower. I put a cap from another mower on and it will start but only run for a few seconds. I've pulled the plug and the air filter. Still the same result what is my...

You need to find a "vented" gas cap for your mower to continue running with the cap on. You can buy such a gas cap for most mowers at Wal-mart or similar department store and it will say "vented" on the packaging.

Lawn Boy mower will not start. New gas and plug.

Is the plug getting wet? if not, try introducing fuel to the intake and attempt to start it again, the interlock on the handle works by killing the ignition fire and applying a brake to the flywheel, this should be a Tecumseh engine, carb troubles are quite prevalent on these, by substituting fuel to the intake you are acting as the fuel supply, if it starts and runs briefly you have confirmed a fuel system issue

Hi, My 6.25 HP Lawn Boy mower has been very reliable and has always started after a couple of primers and 2-3 pulls. It is not starting this week. Do you have any suggestions?

take air filter off and give it a shot of starter fluid, if it starts, you have a carberator problem. if it dose not start, check the spark plug.

Mower runs for a few minutes and cuts out

The problem you describe sounds like it could be fuel starvation. I would suggest checking the carburetor, fuel filter (if it has one), and all the fuel lines. Another possibility would be the air filter, but I'd check the fuel system first. This is most likely a carburetor problem. You'll need some carburetor cleaner and some compressed air (a compressor with an air nozzle fitting) or canned compressed air for a computer. Remove the air filter and spray the carb cleaner directly into the carb throat. You'll also notice a primer venturi hole and possibly a secondary venturi. Spray the cleaner into them directly. Allow to sit of 5 or 10 minutes then blow out the venturi with the compressed air. It may also be necessary (for a gravity feed carb) to remove the float bowl and spray cleaner into the main feed tube. Blow this out with the compressed air also. Reassemble and start the mower. If you were able to blow out the venturi obstructions, the mower should now run fine.
I hope this helps and good luck. Please remember to vote f131669.jpg below if this was helpful in any way. Thanks.

Mower starts but boggs down and then dies

Sounds like the air filter media is full of muck.

You need to clean it.

Everything should then be fine....
