Re: hp dv1000 doesnt boot
Sounds like the battery is not being charged properly. With a voltmeter, check for voltage at the output of the charger that plugs into the computer. It should read several volts higher than the battery voltage rating. It is common for one of the wires to break just inside the plug. Radio Shack stores have a plug and cord that fits the computer, but the new wiring must be spliced into the original cord (with the correct polarity). Replacement cost for a new charger is quite high! Good luck!
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

The motherboard is the problem, common in HP, sub out the ram one stick at a time and try power on each time, remove main battery as a last resort. If none of these help the main board must be replaced.
the dv and tx series are very poorly designed, they can't keep the internal electronics cool enough to run properly (even under ideal conditions they will fail in just over the warranty period) with the vents obstructed cooking your motherboard becomes a near certainty.
if you really need to get this machine to boot up again (eg to rescue files before it is completely done) step 1 power down completely (you can hold the power to off for a few sec or unplug and pop the battery.) once system has cooled test to see if it can boot. If the lights and fans all come on but the screen stays black... (warning u should never try this with a healthy pc) .. then turn on pc (lights come on but nobodies home, no boot, no post, no nothing) put the pc into a bag or case (whatever you would carry it around in should work) let it run for about 30 min or so (it should be really hot now)
try booting again.
it might just be superstitious but i have found that holding down the f10 key while booting seems to help. good luck and don't buy HP unless you want a half-*** product
To turn on an HP webcam: 1. Go to QuickPlay (press the blue-lighted button above the F3 key (or next to the power button)). 2. When QuickPlay shows up, there is a row of six icons across the bottom of the screen: click on the second one from the left (the one with the photo-movie_reel-music_notes). 3. A window with three 'frames' shows up. On the left frame there are six items: the fifth one should say 'HP Webcam'. Click on it. 4. The webcam's blue LED light should now be turned on. There should be a rectangle with dimensions of ratio 1:2 which should show what the camera is sensing. 5. There is a row of seven buttons above that rectangle: the seventh is for taking snapshots and the sixth for recording videos. 6. Videos and pictures are saved at: Pictures -- C:\Users\Public\Public Pictures\My Snapshots Videos -- C:\Users\Public\Public Videos\HP Webcam sometimes it doesnt say "hp web cam" it says "usb video device"
Could be a glitched battery. Turn it on without battery installed. Also, to eleviate the memory - take it out. The unit will still turn on. I have to go along with HP support, that's it's probably the mother board. Now all is not gloomy. Hp has extended their warranty on many models, Dv2000-Dv6000 to name a few. Ask for a supervisor.
All lights come on HP Pavilion dv1000 but will not boot. looked at motherboard and by power connector there is a blown part the number on the board shows PD27. I need to know what thhe part is or a schematic showing
