Before opening cpu just confirm that the another harddisk is master or slave by going to BIOS set up or CMOS setup....

then open you cpu
see near the harddisk which is already connected ...
then do the following:
first you have to make jumper settings .. if the harddisk which is already connected is master then you must make the extra harddisk slave by shifting the jumper to next two pins .... about jumpers it will be defined on the harddisk label refer it....

. . . .
. . . .

just refer this simple dots as pins which is parallel.. ... if you want to make master then you put the jumper to this first pins parallelly if you want to make slave then put in to second pins parallely...
1. there will be one bus which is left empty parallel to the harddisk which is already connected... the bus will broad and it will be in white colour ... connect it to extra harddisk correctly...
2.there will one more parallel power supply which will be have 4 pins small one ... connect it to extra harddisk the yellow wire must be facing you....
then just switch on the pc and check in bios settings the extra harddisk is detected or not... if not you have not connected properly connect it properly...

Xp disc management

If your hard drive is on the HAL for XP you should see it in the BIOS. If it is not on the list, check with the manufacturer to see if there is an install disk for it. This disk will install a "BIOS Driver" for your new device.

Windows xp does not install

If your hard disk is a SATA disk then -
The problem is that XP installation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on a disk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then, XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS and disable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is a IDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows has been installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver), then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

I would like to know if an older hard drive from imac model A1076 could be installed in a slightly newer imac, model A1145 and have it be compatible and working with no problems?

Hard drives are universal, and based on physical connection / type. So your older HD should work even if you have newer SATA connection. The connection is backwards compatible.

I installed windows 7 on my lenovo g460. After installation It cannot boot from harddisk. The LED light of HDD is turn on when pc starts and as soon as it comes to boot device selection it becomes off.

First reseat the hard drive. Next make sure you have no USB or ESATA devices connected to the laptop as the system could be trying to boot from one of them. Another possibility is that the hard drive could have failed. (when you install an OS you put the hard drive through a lot more stress than you would during normal use. If the drive was on the verg of failing that could have pushed it over the edge). There are built in hard drive diagnostics that you can run. Consult your owners manual or the Lenovo support site for a how-to guide.

How to install amd 64 mother board cd

install the flat cables coming from the hard disk drive, optical units and floppy disk drive. If you didn't install these devices to the case yet now it is a good time to do so. The cable from the hard disk drive must be installed on the IDE1 (primary) port and the cable from the optical unit must be installed on the IDE2 (secondary) port. The floppy cable should be installed on the floppy port. To install the cable, just pay attention on the red wire, it should be installed facing the "pin 1" marking on the motherboard. This marking is usually a number "1" or "2" painted on one of the sides of the connector (the opposite side should be marked "40" or "39", or "33" or "34" in the case of the floppy port).

Figure 19: Cables from the hard disk drive, optical unit and floppy disk drive correctly installed.
The next step is connecting the power supply. The power supply has one 20-pin connector and your motherboard can have an extra 4-pin connector called ATX12V, which should also be installed (not all motherboards have this extra connector). You may need to lift the motherboard in a 45º angle with the table you are using to assemble your PC, since usually the wires from the power supply aren't long enough to reach the motherboard while it is on the table outside the case.

Gateway gt5404 reads no bootable device pc seemed to siow down some then went black was after micro. soft update ? unpluged twice pulled batt. reconected it worked set clock back worked awhile went black...

Any hard disk that makes clicking or metallic noises is faulty, especially when POST error message no bootable devices detected.
To confirm go into the BIOS setting and see if the hard drive is detected, if it cannot detect the hard drive then it is definitely faulty.
Replace the hard drive and install Windows on the new hard drive to get the computer working again.

hi, this is hard with out the disc for xp, or the one that goes with the system. if you have the key code, and you can get a xp disc, you would be able to clean install of xp, but you would lose the extras and other software that came with the computer, most of those you can download. do not use a dell,hp,or any other brands install disc! unless yours is a direct match. you may try and find an oem xp disc(this is what i would do) and clean install.hope this helps, glen
