Probably not.

And if it was repairable the cost would negate any benefit.

SOURCE: blown voice coil (punch)

Hello. I recone speakers and your speaker should be fixable. As allready mentioned, it may be cheaper to find a mate on ebay all though it can be hit and miss. The coil's demensions can vary greatly as there are thousands of different parts produced over the years. There is expensive tooling involved in the successful construction of a voice coil as tolerances have to be within a few thousands of an inch. I have wound coils before and now try to purchase due to time restraints. I have found Precision Econowind to have the highest quality and most reliable product to date but they only deal in quantity. Getting back to your speaker you should confirm the coil is the problem and not leed wires, shifted magnet, ripped suspension, cone fracture, or glue failure. If the speaker stinks like burnt bandaids than the coil is definitely fried. On some speaker models I have been suscessfull in reusing the OEM parts so the speaker still looks original if it is an issue and drops the cost somewhat. If the parts are knifed than they must be replaced.

SOURCE: SPL160's with 2 blown voice coils

Downgrade to two subs.

The simple fact of the matter is these are long out of production. Nobody can get you a replacement coils/spiders at this point.

The sub could be rebuilt, but it could only be ran by itself. It would be a different sub all together and couldnt be run with the counterparts.

Bad solution for you but the only viable one.

WHEN YOU PUSH DOWN EVENLY ON THE SPEAKER ITSELF...IT JUST SUDDENLY GIVES-WAY, WITH A KIND OF POP. DOES THIS MEAN THAT THE WOOFER IS BLOWN??? AND IF SO IS IT POSSIBLE TO REPAIR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM? ...

The first thing to do is to check the resistance of the voice coil. Get an ohm meter & place one lead on each of the speaker terminals. If a value of 0 ohms results, or no reading at all, the voice coil is blown.

If you are pressing in, and suddenly gives way, my guess would be that the excursion of the speaker was too grand (common with car stereo, everyone loves bass) and the wires that wrap around the voice coil of the speaker were broken from the speaker inputs.

It is possible to recone the speaker, but by the time you track down a recone kit (highly unlikely that it is even available) you would be rather deep into the project.

Long story short:
check the speaker terminals with an ohm meter. If you get a resistance, they should work with free woofer movement. No resistance = blown woofer.

How can i tell if a dual voice coil alpine type x is blown, apparently it was only wired in and only one voice coil was hooked up?

they best way to do this is with a multi meter on the OHMS setting.... to do this set the multi meter to the least ohms setting, usually it reads 20 or under. Connect the wires to each voice coil (by the speaker wire connections) if the multi meter reads 2 to 4 ohms whichever your speaker is, then the voice coil is not blown, but if it reads 8-10-12-14 or OL which means open loop then the coil in junk.

Can I repair a blown(frozen) s-12?

yes- though i have never done it myself.

frozen woofers are often the result of melted vioce coils. here is a site for a company which sells alpine voice coil repair kits: http://www.mwaspeakerparts.com/speaker_parts_manufacturers.html

here is a page which details how to repair voice coils yourself: http://www.sound-thinking.org/index.php?showtopic=908

I BLEW MY AUDIOBAHN AW1208T SUBWOOFER AND WANT TO KNOW IF IT CAN GET FIXED I THE THINK ITS JUST DUAL VOICE NOT SURE THOUGH

is the rubber surround blown out.. look at voice coil itself .. it could be repaired but maybe not worth it. can u actuate the speaker down and up.. if you can then the voice coil is fused.. and if u can and u hear or feel resistance then there is work to be done to the voice coil and spider. Could be costly.. if its just the rubber.. use silicone to re-seal it.. ol skool trick..

I have 2 psw810, and one of them are blown. how can i get it repaired. felixflor216@hotmail.com

Generally speaking if the voice coil is actually 'blown' (accepted too much power therefore reads as a short when connected to an ohmmeter) It would be cheaper to purchase a new sub woofer.

90% of the speaker manufacturing price is in the voice coil. The cage, driver and dustcap as well as the surround are inexpensive components.

I would suggest testing the voice coil with an ohmmeter first before you decide what to do. If the meter doesn't read a short then its likely a TV repair shop can reconnect the lead that attaches the terminal to the voice coil.

"Is there any way to repair voice coil?"

the simple answer is no.

the long answer is you could try contacting the mfg of the sub and see if you can order a new foam ring, cone and voice coil to replace the one you will have to destroy to take it out.
