Question about Brother HL 5170DN Laser Printer

1 Answer

I bought the printer in early 2006. After the initial cartridge ran out, I went through 2 TN-570 cartridges. After that my problems started. I put in a new authentic TN-570 cartridge and got heavy ghosting. The store expert say I need a new drum. I bought and installed a new authentic Brother DR510. The problem persisted. I contacted the merchant, and he sent me a new DR510. Same problem. So ordered one more authentic brother TN-570 cartridge. Same problem. I have a brand new DR510, two almost new TN-570 cartridges both authentic Brother products and still don't seem to get a decent print!! Help! Is there setting on the printer I am not aware of I need to reset to cut the ghosting out? But the first two times I replaced the cartridge (original drum), I did not do anything and got good prints. I still have the original drum (which I think is probably fine because I have not printed more than 10K pages on this printer) but I do not know how to get good prints out of any combination of drums and cartridges I have accumulated

If you are still ghosting after replacing the drum (especially multiple times), it shounds like you need to have the high-voltage power supply PCB (HVPS PCB) MSRP is $43.38

No matter how little or how much you print, mostly depending on the type of paper used and the environment, this part can go out.

I need to replace the cartridge on my Brother MFC-7440N please help

The cartridge is TN 2120 (TN 360 in USA).
If you use a brand new cartridge jusr put it in the drum unit, then whole assembly into the printer, close the front cover and print.
If you use refilled cartridge you need to place the reset gear to correct position. Here are the instructions how to do it -
I hope it will help.

Replaced printer toner TN-360 and ink marks are printing on left side of pate

If the problem just started when you put a new toner cartridge in the machine, the cartridge is probably defective. Bring it back to where you purchased it from, explain your problem, and chances are they will give you a new one.

Same as the guy above.

This usually happens if you just replace your inkjet cartridge with a refill.

You must replace it with original inkjet cartridge.

Brother MCF-7340 first time toner replacement

If this model comes with the drum separately of the cartridge, only replace the cartridge. There's no need to change it every time. until prints start to get lines or dots. Don't expose the drum to light too much.

Why won't my CX9400F recognize Epson ink cartridges

The Epson CX9400F printer seems to require replacement of all the color ink cartridges, even if only the Black is empty.

I print almost exclusively in Black, but with my first change of Black, I was forced to change all the color. At the time I thought Epson did not provide completely filled color ink cartridges.

Just yesterday, I replaced Black and the printer complained it did not recognize the rest of color cartridges. So I replaced all the other color ink cartridges and now it works fine.

You might want to check out for cheaper, mail order alternatives which are Epson ink compatible, if you are not in a hurry.

Please remove shipping lock from yellow cartdrige

I'm not sure this will apply to all instances of this, but we had the same problem on a CP1515n. I tried cleaning contacts and waving the cartridge about, to no avail.

I then found a message from an HP employee in another forum saying to swap the yellow with another colour, start the machine and then swap them back. I swapped it with the magenta and the printer went through quite a long initialization process eventually saying "incorrect supplies". I swapped them back and it worked.

Hp Lj 2430TN Printer

We ran into this problem a lot when this series first came out. There is a simple sensor on the left hand side of the toner cartridge area inside the printer that physically detects that a toner is installed (or not). With the left cover off, there is a plastic bracket that holds a lever; unless it is not, then it tells you that you have no toner installed. Lame.
