Canon XL1s Viewfinder image gone

When I turn my camera on I can see an image then within 1 minute it starts to look like paint running down a wall then just shows small particles of the inmage in very bizarre colours...
was filoming one night at a concert and it started to do this mid way through. The picture on tape is fine and I can monitor externally okay.... is this gonna cost me nearly £1000 to replace????

Yeah, it sounds like the LCD has cracked at the bottom, or something. Since there is no pressure holding the liquid in the right place, it all settles at the bottom. (Hence the paint running down wall effect) soory to hear this dude :(

The image in my viewfinder has gone fuzzy

Complete information is lacking.
By viewfinder, are you talking about the LCD or the view finder on the camera?
Something is out of focus in the internal adjustments.
You can try to go to the menus and set all to factory defaults.
Then try it.
If this continues, the camera needs repair.
Here is a link for Canon Repair call the 800 number and ask for the repair dept.
Also Canon has a trade-in program for re-furbished cameras for a reasonable price when you trade in your broken camera.

Hi there When I shoot in 16x9 widescreen with my Canon XL1 the viewfinder shows the same image as when shooting in 4x3. Can this be adjusted. Regards John

It is not showing the same image, it is showing the 16x9 squished down to the 4x3 aspect ratio. I thought I had the same thing at first too. But to check & make sure set up a shot of something square in one or the other shooting ratios. Then go into the menu & set it up on the 16x9 on/off. To make it easier to see the picture hook up to a monitor to see the picture without squinting through the eye piece. Now while you are watching the picture switch the 16x9 on & off on the camera. If you started in 16x9 the square will lengthen from side to side in 4x3, while the square in 4x3 will become squished on the sides. If you can't tell, take a piece of tape [removable tape that is] and make the sides of the box before & after you change the aspect ratio.

Hi there, My Camera's viewfinder shows grey whenever it ispowered on soin bright light, images are not so visible, yet during play back, it shows with color. some one help me with this problem.

There is only one control on the VF unit. Brightness Control. So if the brightness control does not resolve the grey problem, VF need repair by technician probably replacing some component to remedy the problem. -James. For further assistance by email, go to www.camerarepairjapan.com

How can I fix a burn spot on canon video camera xl1s?

It could be a burned pixel. If so you will need to replace the ccd imager block. If it shows up only in the viewfinder and not played back or viewed on a different monitor, then the bad pixel is in the viewfinder. Which you can replace the viewfinder but, if you oinly see it there & not in the final product, save your money &n live with it.

No picture in rec mode, cam switches off in 10sec

Try using the Dummie Battery and connect that end to charger.
This way you will know that you don't have battery problems.

Can't select clear scan in menu Canon xl1s

You have to Be in [A] mode the first option after [off] then press EXP. Lock and keep pushing the shutter + or - button until the viewfinder displays CS where the shutter speed were at, now you can select clear scan in the menu. Note: it will only work in this mode and fashion.

There's a little scrolling wheel to the left of the viewfinder; move it up or down until the image is clearest.
