Projection TV`s have many protective circuits in them, they protect your CRT`s from damage, over voltage called x-ray, and many others, you need to have it checked before the damage is more costly your TV is not happy and needs to be checked

Tv shuts itself down

This is due to bad caps read here what a cap is www.badcaps.net see you tv is getting hot as normal but the caps cannot stand it any more thus shutting the tv down. The bad caps would be more or less in the power supply unit of this TV. So you can buy a new psu or get it repaired by a expert.

Tv shuts itself off

The power supply may be going on to protection mode. This is usualy because one of the scan amplifiers may have failed, or something is taking too much current and forcing the power supply to shut down.

TV shuts itself off after a few minutes. Will also shut itself off if the DVD open/close button is pushed. Not sure if a DVD is in the machine or not. Any ideas??

I know that shortly after I purchased this tv mine also shut itself off occasionally. The owners manual says that if it is on dvd mode and it's paused or on an inactive menu or something for 15 minutes or so that it would shut itself off. If a dvd is stuck inside it may be causing this? I have no idea about the open/close malfunction.
