The sound through external speakers and headphones plugged into the jack is just fine. I'm kind of wondering if this is something I can solve by myself. I can't be without this laptop for more than a few hours at best since I use it heavily for work.

Yeah, it's providing a stereo signal alright. When I use the wizard to configure my playback device, I have the option to test both R and L speakers and the right one doesn't pass the test after it happened.
I've tried adjusting the balance too and that doesn't help either.

If it just stopped, then odds on it IS the actual speaker, also considering the Other one works... are you sure you are providing a Stereo signal?

None of my usb ports work on my hp pavilion dv7-4051. in the device manager it says that a program or hardware issue is involved. it says that a file or something is missing, or corrupt. i dont know what...

Try visiting HP's support site for latest drivers for your supported model?
Also, right click "my computer" and select manage. From there, select Device Manager and look for any Unknown Device/Driver (yellow icon with ! mark).
You might be missing/needing an updated driver for the computer to use the USB ports. Windows updates won't necessarily include the model/make specific driver.
Note: please be more specific with HP model as there are several 4051 (entertainment model), along with version of Windows (7 (32bit or 64bit). Look for latest BIOS and update that, along with any chipset and storage drivers that might be applicable to your model.

My Dell D620 lost audio on the laptop today. Went

Try system restore, if it fails, try to perform 32 bit dell diagnostics on the audio by booting the computer using the resource cd. make sure that the external speakers is disconnected. if still no sound on the diagnostics then you need to replace the internal speakers.

External speakers for toshiba laptop problem

Check device manager and make sure the audio drivers are not disabled. If so enabled it. I am quite sure you have checked to see if its muted. If it is enabled and its not working, try updating the drivers or uninstalling and reinstalling latest driver audio driver OEM site.

**If you reinstall the same driver you might get the same error but its what a shot.**

5.1 surround not working

I uninstalled the previous audio software that the computer had. (Realtek HD audio) and turned off the onboard sound card in the BIOS settings. Then I went back and uninstalled all the new audio software and reinstalled it with all antivirus programs turned off. The main trick was to make sure that the matrix is turned off. If it is on it will play sound from all the speakers at once as if it were mono. Turning it off after changing the BIOS and uninstalling the old software and reinstalling the new allowed it to work properly. I hope this helps.

Compaq presario v6000 laptop keyboard malfunction

Try reseting the BIOS to its defaults by following the instructions below :

Start or restart the Notebook and start tapping the F10 key immideatly you see the HP logo.

Now, in this press the F9 key to load the BIOS Default settings.

Press the F10 key to save the settings and exit the BIOS setup window.

Additionally, check by connecting any USB Keyboard to the Notebook if available.

Additionally, find the Product Number of the Notebook which is indicated with P/N printed on a white sticker pasted at the bottom of the notebook.

Open and enter this in the search field at the top right column.

Click on Software & Driver downloads and select the Operating System in the Notebook which should be Vista.

Scroll down to find BIOS under which you will find the BIOS Updates available for your Notebook.

Download and save the latest BIOS Update available.

Close all the windows and applications and double click on the file to update the BIOS.

Donot attempt to access any application or turn it off or restart when the BIOS is being updated as this will damage the BIOS Chip and make the Notebook useless.

The Notebook will restart automatically after the BIOS is Updated.

Hope this helps...
