Question about Dell XPS M1210 Notebook

Playstation 3 HDD

I have just replaced my PS3 HDD with a drive I already had at home. The drive is from a new Plug & Play Seagate Free Agent Go. This drive fits perfect into the PS3 and is 320GB with a 5400rpm. The only thing that is concerning me is. I've heard people who have installed a Seagate drive say it runs at 3 Gb/s and this has caused the PS3 a problem as the PS3 only works at 1.5 Gb/s (I don't know what it all really means, but anyway), I noticed that the Seagate drive I now have says 480 Mb/s?
I understand that 1.5Gb/s is half 3Gb/s and that 480Mb/s is about 3 times smaller than the 1.5Gb/s if this is true, but would this cause stuttering, games not to load or loading times become unbearably long or even the worst senario. The drive become corrupt and I would lose data.
Thanks for any views and any response would be appreciated.

Yup you are right & wrong... OK More speed is good it won't force that speed that is just the maximum it MAY transfer at... Yes, a faster drive IS required, and NO that one isn't fast enough. You need a 7200rpm drive with a 8GB cache and blazing fast access times...

My ps3 can play dvds but no games how to fix

You see to play DVD's & CD's all the information is on them while the game gets loaded into the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (HDD) which if yours is not large enough for the new games say 80 GB then they will not work or if your PS3 HDD is bad. If the problem is the later (Bad) inotherwords same games you always used don't work, then I suggest company below for drive replacement and or upgrade. Since you like I, are tired of feeding Sony, find link below for more reasonable price

Positive Feedback ALWAYS welcome :)

It say that my hard disk file system is corrupted.what should i do about that but another one.

Cause #1: PS3 powered off during 'write to disk' stage of game startup, which is easy to do if the factory default "Auto Start Game" setting is still on in System Settings (turn this setting off).
Solution: Sony uses Seagate notebook drives for PS3's. You will need to remove the drive and connect it to your PC (go to the link on Cause #2's solution for instructions). Because the PS3 drive format is not recognized by Windows it might not show up as an accessible drive. You will then need to go to: Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management and assign the PS3 HDD a drive letter - but skip or cancel when asked to format or partition this drive. Now go to:
and download SeaTools. This program will diagnose and repair the problem on the PS3 HDD (without erasing game saves, downloads, etc.). Next, just re-install the drive into the PS3, and remember to turn off the "Auto Start Game" option!

Cause #2: Physical HDD failure.
Solution: Contact store/Sony if still under warranty. If not, just replace your PS3 HDD with a 2.5" SATA notebook drive. Easy to follow guide at:

Solid red light unit wont play

The Red light is due to the HDD (hard drive). There is one of 2 problems: 1. The connection is loose or 2. The HDD is just bad. This was an issue that has been discussed over in the Playstation forums and it seems that re-seating (removing & reinstalling) the HDD has solved the problem for many but some people have just received bad hard drives period. If you reinstall the HDD & it still beeps 3 times & gives you the red light, then you will have to replace your HDD. If I remember correctly, PS3s use Hitachi Laptop Drives. IMO, Hitachi is not well known for good drives. I replaced mine with a 160GB Western Digital drive I got for free a few months ago. I haven't had any problems since. Hitachi makes a good drive, but the ones that fail seem to fail really bad. Western Digital seems to make the best drives and they offer a very good warranty service as well.

Installation issue - Not recognizing

hmm, no problem plugging in either side, just be sure to do the power cable first. What's doing the beep, beep?

Found a guy who had similar prob, here was his solution:
Go to Control Panel. Click on Device Manager.
Check to see if FreeAgent is shown as a disk drive.
If not, check the device list for any Free Agent device, double click and check driver. No driver installed? Update does not work? On the driver tab….click uninstall device.
Shut down computer. Unplug Free agent USB and power at the drive.
Reboot computer. As it is rebooting, plug in the power cord. Wait a minute or two….then plug in USB cord.

Windows will “found new device” ….. Just let the computer complete the reboot.
Then go to the device manager. Chances are you will find Free Agent in the drives….and in the USB list of devices. Open windows explorer….and you should see you Free Agent as a drive.
Windows will ask you to install manufacturer disk. You have no disk…non needed. Windows has installed the device. Just click on close. I you keep getting windows wants to install device…..ignore it. You can click on “don’t ask again”. (That is if your Free Agent drive is showing in the device manager as a disk…and in windows explorer….along with your other drive or drives.)
If at some later time….your Free Agent drive does not appear….repeat the steps as listed above.
(You may think it is not working….or that it has gone bad. Try this before you try to return.)
Seagate Tools…the new version….does not recognize to diagnose the Free Agent….
I have not tried Seagate Tools after getting the computer to recognize the drive.
I am surprised Seagate does not provide a Tool to recognize their own drives…and install and/or test Free Agent.

This does work for me with Vista. Thought I had lost the drive…. Seagate should provide a patch or a drive that Windows will recognize when you get the “found new hardware” and Windows asks you to insert manufacturer’s installation disk. I do not understand why that is not already there….a driver file for Free Agent...that Windows would install.

I did not buy Pro….because I did not need the backup software. I wonder if those who bought Pro are having these problems.

I bought 500GB seagate free agent ... but i couldn't use it with my dz270 to play movies :-). I could have gone for dz290 :-(
