Hi, I'm having a problem where when I try to drag a video clip into the timeline, this message pops up that says "an error has occurred, an exception has occured" and then it closes Movie Studio. Why is it doing that??

Thank you for your reply! I appreciate it. This information is very helpful, but it does lead me to ask one more question. I think I will first try updating my version, but if that doesn't work and I go the route of re installation, would any projects i had been working on in Movie Studio be erased when I uninstall it? Because I have one right now that I would really like to not lose. Thanks again!

Hi,

Basically this means that the program has received an instruction that it does not recognize or cannot handle hence crashing the program.

There can be multiple causes for this which are near impossible to track down without serious analysis. Often it involves a bug which has developed through no fault of your own and this crash is the result of poor programming which does not allow the program to cope with exceptions of this nature when they occur.

In my experience the simplest way to resolve issues like this is to completely uninstall the program and then reinstall it from its original CD. A fresh install usually resolves the problem and leaves your program working again.

Make sure to do this by opening Start - Control panel - Add/Remove programs and then un-install your movie studio from the list. Then insert the CD and reinstall the program. More often than not this will resolve the behavior.

Thanks for using FixYa. Please do take a moment to rate the solution if it helps you.

Additionally please check your version of the program as Vegas Movie Studio 9.0 Platinum has been updated to version 9.0b in an effort to resolve some of these glitches. If your version is 9.0 you should avail of the free update to 9.0b from here.

    Hi,

Thanks for the comment. Your project files are saved by default onto your computer with either a .veg file extension or a .vf file extension. There are variations in the Vegas program so it is one or other of these extensions that applies in your case.

There should be no effect on your project when you un-install the program as these files should remain on the computer. Usually this project file is saved under Document and Settings by default.

If you like you can use your computers search function to look for .veg or .vf files then right click on a found file and use 'open containing folder'. This will show the folder and its location with all of your project files in it. Create a new folder on your desktop for handy reference and then copy and paste all the files into it as a back up. That way you can be sure the project files are safe.

However as I say un-installing the program should not effect the original files anyway.

Hope you get it sorted and thanks for using FixYa.

Re: Windows Movie Maker. When drop n drag picture is brought to the timeline, OK. But, when music is added to the Audio line, the system shuts down with a message: Windows Movie Maker has stopped working....

It is possible that the movie maker is unable to do that task assigned because of the size of the video and audio file. can you try a small file first and see if they will work. a short video and audio clip less than a min. should do

When i go to make movie mode a panel comes up which readsas follows "cannot create disc because the selected menu has no links"

Studio error: Cannot create disc because the selected menu has no links
This error will occur if a menu has been added to the project, but links to chapters have not been properly set. It is not enough to just add a menu to a project; it is also required to have at least one point in the project associated with the menu.
When adding a menu to a project, you will be prompted to let Studio create chapters automatically or you can choose to create chapters manually. If you choose to have Studio create the chapters automatically it will always add at least one chapter and this error should never occur. If you choose to add chapters manually, it is then required to add at least one chapter. Here are basic instructions to accomplish this.
  1. Double-click on the menu in the timeline to bring up the Menu Properties.
  2. Select that video clip in the timeline that you would like to link to the menu.
  3. Right-click on the video clip in the timeline and select "Set Disc Chapter."
  4. Alternately you can drag the clip to the button in the menu displayed in the Menu Properties window.
For additional information on creating menus, please see the Disc Menus section of the Help file by going to Help -> Help Topics in Studio.

How do I rotate my video clip

Windows Movie Maker will rotate your video clips. This program comes pre-loaded with Window, so you're likely to have it already installed on your computer (look in the Program's / Accessories folder from your Start menu).

Drag the file into movie maker, then drag it down onto the bottom timeline. Then look for "Edit Movie" in the menu on the left side of your screen. Click on it, then select the rotation that you desire. Note that Movie Maker will only allow you to save your edited movie as a WMV (Windows Media Video) movie.
