that's part of the problem. we don't have our owner's manual and the model number isn't listed on the oven. it's a maytag that says "super capacity plus". ??

  • dansinghas Jan 31, 2010

our maytag oven will not unlock after its recent self-cleaning cycle. i have no idea what our model# is and i can't find the owners manual. the error code is f3. any ideas?

  • dansinghas Feb 02, 2010

I cant ohm it out because I cant get the oven to heat up. If I put it on bake and set the temp, it beeps at me and gives me the f3 error code. I have been able to get the lock back in place by manually turning the motor that controls the lock, There are 2 white wires that are coming out of the back of the oven one of which is alittle burnt where it comes out of the oven. The wire isnt exposed, just the insulation is brown. The wires are by themselves. Hopefully this info will help you to help me.

    Thanks

    Dan

  • dansinghas Feb 02, 2010

The insulation that is burnt is on a wire going to the internal igniter. Could that cause the f3 error code?

  • dansinghas Feb 02, 2010

ok thanks. I think i am going to replace the temp. sensor and the igniter with the burnt wires just to be safe. I will let you know what happens. Thanks

Hi,

F3 is a failure in the oven sensor circuit. That circuit being from the ERC outlet pin to the harness, to the sensor and back to the ERC return pin. Could be a bad sensor that is failing under heat conditions, or possibly a connection that is failing as the unit heats and it expands. The temp of the sensor at room temp is 1050-1100 0hms and goes up 100 ohms for every 50 degrees from there. If you can get it to fail, and ohm it out, you will know for sure. I will tell you a sensor is a heck of a lot cheaper then an ERC and is more likely the culprit. Always suspect the input rather then the ERC in intermittent situations.

    Thanks for your response!!

The Solution that i gave to you, would be for the Error Code F3. Now, regarding the Wire, there could be many Possibilities. Could be due to Temp. Sensor Malfunctioning, can be a wrong size of the wire, a loose connection, a short in the
heating element or somewhere else, etc. Voltage controls by infinite
switch. It is not easy to tell the Exact Cause. You could check and make sure all the Connections are tight and Secure.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

Normally the F3 error code refers to a defective oven temperature sensor, it is the same for magic chef and kitchen aid, the following website provides a good parts breakdown for locating where and how the sensor mounts as well as a picture of the part mentioned, price and availability:
www.partselect.com/ you will need your complete model number.

Try the following suggestions and see if the oven door will open , seems that the model number should be located inside or around the inside door liner and outter cavity of the oven also try lifting the cook top if it is a free standing range and look for a plate usually located between the burners. if nun of this works, I would contact the realestate company that sold the house and have them check thair records, that's about the only thing s I can think of that can help you. Thanks and good luck!

After self cleaning the range the door won't open....

The oven door lock needs approximately 1 hour to cool down before the oven door can be opened after a self cleaning cycle has finished. If the lock does not open after the oven has cooled down, you can try....1) Unplugging the range or shut off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes. Plug the range back in or turn on the circuit breaker. Set the clock and try moving the door lock lever or opening the door. 2) Set the self-clean cycle again and only allow it to work for 15 minutes. Cancel the self-clean cycle and allow the oven to cool. Gently try moving the door lock lever or opening the door.

Most ranges today use 3 different types of door locks...one is a solenoid controlled lock ( you hear a loud buzz noise when setting or unlocking the lock and has a arm that you must move to set the lock )...another is a heat sensitive lock ( has a arm that you must move to lock and un-lock, makes no noises and has a spring that slowly moves to lock the door will the oven is heating up )...Some locks are motorized ( no handle to move, the motor locks the door by it's self when you set the range for self clean )... If the motorized and heat sensitive locks fails to open after the self clean cycle, you must access the lock and move it yourself to open the door. On the free standing ranges, most times you must lift the cook top to access the lock mechanism. On built in ovens, the oven must be pulled out to remove the top access panel to get at the lock mechanism. Some build in ovens can have the control console removed to access the lock system. On the heat sensitive style of lock, there are no electrical parts to operate the lock, usually you will need to replace the lock. On the motorized style of lock, you will have to use a ohm/volt meter to test why the motor will not work. On the solenoid style of lock, the solenoid is often mounted on the back of the range and can be accessed by removing the rear panel, some may be mounted at the front, such as in a built in oven. The failure of the solenoid style of lock is normally caused by a bad lock solenoid. In order to get your door open, you must operate the door latch mechanism manually. Unplug or remove power from the range. Take the rear cover off the range. Locate the door latch assembly and operate it manually and open your door. Then check continuity of the solenoid. Some of the latch assemblies have micro switches to supply power also. You may need to check them. You should be able to get the door open and use your range until you can get a tech to repair if you can not repair yourself.

Oven door is locked with food in it how to unlock asap

Hi , Anon !
My name is Ashlynn .
If your oven is locked , here's some ways you can unlock it :
  • 1 Look for a manual lever to unlock the oven. If there is one, it will probably swing back and forth horizontally, just below the upper edge of the oven door.
  • 2 Swing the locking lever, if one is present, all the way to the left. This should unlock the oven. If there is no manual lever to unlock the oven, it may be unlocked using push-button controls.
  • 3 Check to see if the oven is in a self-cleaning cycle, or has just completed a self-cleaning cycle. If so, the door will unlock automatically once the oven has finished the cleaning cycle and cooled completely, which may take several hours. You cannot unlock the oven before it has cooled.
  • 4 Unlock the "Clean/Off" button. Depending on the brand and model of your oven, the button may display both of these designations or just one. If your oven door is locked, but the oven is not warm and is not in a cleaning cycle, unlock it by pressing and holding the "Clean/Off" button.

But it seems you have food inside so ,
Press cancel on the cooking cycle , and let it cool to room temperature , and then try to open your oven .

Any codes? Most like the temperature sensor probe. I had to replace it after the self cleaning cycle. It had an F3 code.
