HELP Hi there I have a Panasonic surround sound system (SA-HT840) and something on one of boards went up in `n expensive smoke after a thunder storm. The amp part that is situated in the subwoofer seems to be fine and it is only the one card that is damaged. Does anyone know where I can find a new one? (CMKM-P3X) Thanks

Hi Rokko, that part number brings up a video board assembly. Is this what you expected... Smoked electronics associated with storm related power surge can mean extensive problems in more than one area... what symptoms are you experiencing with the gear?

Have you got cover in your insurance policy... and many electricity companies are bound by law to maintain supply within a certain percentage, and even though it was a storm that caused the problem... the power company delivered it to you... and can be sued(or at least threatened) for damages if they don't get straight up and just sort out the problem for you. Is worth looking into:)

In addition, i have attempted to repair many an item that has been "storm damaged" power surge style, and have learned the expensive lesson over the years. I have learned generally, to not even try to fix them. First you quote on what seems like an obvious problem, to then find more and more wrong, and sometimes units returned whilst the repair is under warranty still with additional problems. Once you have started to outlay your hard earned cash on expensive parts that "half" get it going, but still needing more, you learn the lesson. Is my best advice to you anyways. Good Luck

Hi,

To my knowledge a CMKM-P3X is a generic interface board assembly, generally used by many electronic manufacturers. I am therefore inclined to think that this is not the real part number or board number for that matter.

Having said that, is it possible for you to provide photos/images of the burned board or component? There is a possibility that generic/replacement/refurbished may then be available.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

During a storm, i had the tv on & the picture went out on it when it thundered.

Sounds like an overlaod in the power supply. Check the cap at C835 and if possible use a cap-analyser on all of them in the PS circuit. Are there any signs of life when you press the power button?

No sound on Panasonic

jennifer, if your tv has external audio out jacks sometimes called audio monitor jacks, it would be possible to attach the dubbing cables to the aux in of a surround system or a power amp. If you are using any type of cable or satelite box, these things usually have video/audio out jacks too.good luck

My tv went dead during a lightning storm. I heard

The sound could have come from one of your power capacitors. You could tell if one of them is no longer operational by looking at them; they will be burned, or blistered, or will be bulging. If this is a CRT type of TV ensure that you only look inside if you are fully aware of how to deal with the lethal voltages that are stored on the inside of the unit.

Sony KV36XBR450 - no sound

Hi!

Check for the cables to the cable box/reciever. What type of cable are you using for connection with the cable box(HDMI,RCA component cables)? Your tv is fine as it is working with the dvd player. The issue is with the cables connecting the cable box or from the cable company. Call them to get more information about this issue(maybe weak signals)

Please ask for further clarifications.

Please rate this solution as Fixya if found useful.

Help! Surround Sound problems!

Since you have a surround sound system, you probably should just bypass the TV's audio.

Connect the red/white plugs from your digital cable box to one of the inputs on your surround sound system but not the Phono input unless the Phono input lists something aside from Phono, like Aux/Phono or CD/Phono.

Connect the S-Video or composite (yellow) video plug from your digital cable box directly to the S-Video or composite (yellow) video jack on your TV.

If your digital cable box does not have a S-Video (4 pins and flat rectangular hole) or Composite (yellow RCA jack) jack and only has the screw/push-on type cable with the pin in it, then leave the remaining connections as-is.

Now switch your surround sound system to the input you connected the red and white plugs to and turn on your TV. You should see picture from the TV, but hear audio from the surround sound system.

Not an easy fix because of the smoke which means that there is a short from a bad ground that may have blown a capacitor because of a loose connection. Often a short on the circuit board results in having to get a new one because of damage from the sparks. Make sure it is unplugged at all times until someone can open it and look. With any luck, the damage is light and the loose wire can be re soldered at minimal cost.

I think maybe the G-board needs to be replaced. A TV shop will have to repair it. They normally start around $200.00
