Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have just bought a laptop running Windows CE 6.0. It connects to the Internet through WiFi ok, ( i tried it at McDonalds ) but when I try to connect using my broadband Internet connection I have at home using the Ethernet cable, all I get is page not found. So then I bought a Optus wireless Huawei E220 HSDPA USB Modem, and I cannot get it to even recognise it let alone install it. I just want to be able to connect to the internet when I am travelling in the car etc. Any help would be appreciated I am a novice at this sort of thing.

You MUST disable the Wifi for it to use the Ethernet OK. Then maybe even be best to run the connect to internet wizard. and tell it which adapter to use... As one generally never uses both at same time, it is best to enable and disable as required.

I am not sabby with computers so I need a clearer understanding. Regarding disabline the WIFI, what exactly needs to be done for this. How do I run the connect to internet wizard in order to tell it what adapter to use? I'm sorry, I'm not use to this stuff. We now have two computers and will use both often. Thanks in advance!

I have a sylvania notebook, and it runs so slow. It is running off of Internet Explrer 6, I have tried downloading mozailla firefox, google chrome, internet explorer 9, and it wont let me. Everytime I try...

Your netbook doesn't run Windows XP, it uses a cheap version called Windows CE, which is more designed for phones. The reason that you can't install Firefox or Chrome is because Windows CE doesn't support programs designed for Windows XP, Vista, or 7. You can try installing Opera Mini by going to m.opera.com, but there no guarantee that it will work.

Everytime i try to connect to the internet it says This webpage is not available

You need to confirm you are actually connected to the internet next. In the Wifi menu that you get to by double clicking the "pc" on the task bar you will see 3 tabs. If the first tab does not have all the IP, sub-net and default gateway filled in with legal numbers then you are not connected. Furthermore if you have an "IP Address:" that starts with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx then you are not connected to the internet.

If your Wifi setup includes a security phrase then under the wireless information tab it will take the following steps: "associating with.....", then "authenticating with...." then "connected to...."

The easiest way to tell if the problem is within a Sylvania Netbook running Win CE 6 is to take it to a McDonalds or other non-secure wifi location and see if it connects.

If it connects there but doesn't connect at "home" then your problem is between the netbook and your home setup not purely a Wifi not working issue.

There is a Wifi driver update available at the www.digitalgadgets.com website as well as the Sylvania Netbook Yahoo group. There are some additional troubleshooting steps at the Yahoo group.

Cannot connect to the enternet

Assuming this is a Sylvania Netbook running Win CE 6 you might try hooking up to Wifi at a different location than where it is not working. Specifically pick a non-secure location like McDonald's or your local public library or another restaurant.

You normally have to double left click the "pc" on the task bar and go to the 3rd tab to configure your connection(s).

The first tab will tell you if you have made a connection by displaying the address information. If the menu box is not filled out or offers an IP Address that starts with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx then you certainly have not connected to the Internet via your Wifi connection.

Your startup guide as well as the digitalgadgets.com website has a straight forward guide for connecting via Wifi if everything is working ok. They also have some YouTube videos listed there. Last resort is locate the Yahoo group on this subject.

What do i need to use my netbook wi fi, i also heard that you can use a wi fi phone with it

You will need a Wifi access point to connect your Sylvania Netbook using Win CE 6 to the internet. Some cellphones can act as "Wifi access points" but most cellphone network vendors will want you to pay $10USD a month to use that feature.

Free Wifi access points include McDonalds, your local public library, your church and other resturants. I have also found that all major interstate rest areas in IOWA have free wifi.

There are several lists of Free Wifi hotspots on the internet. I like this community effort listing: http://www.wififreespot.com/

The SN comes with a short wifi guide and there is a video as well as a step-by-step Wifi guide at www.digtialgadgets.com

I am trying to connect to my virgin mobile internet via the virgin mobile flash drive, the netbook isn't even picking up that I have the flash drive plugged into the computer.

If this is a Sylvania Netbook running Win CE 6 it is possible that the operating system simply doesn't have a driver for Virgin Mobile cellphone.

The only way I have been able to connect to the internet is via Wifi or a LAN cable plugged into the back. I doubt you will get any other method to work.

Please note the Wifi can be via a Wifi access point on your cellphone, a portable, mobile hotspot that connects via a USB modem or any other functional Wifi access point.

Hi,
I recently bought a Microbook PC with Windows CE v6.00 embeded. It also has WIFI 802.11 b/g.
On the desk top there is a WIFI power button that should activate a network icon on the tool bar. This Icon has disappeared so I cant access wireless networks.
