The solution above is good. you will have to change some fuses and the STKs, Also check the resistors linked to STKs. Hope you are able to DIY. But its a professional job. check out the costs & FAQs @ www.fixurtvs.com.

Emerson 37in flat screen Cracked inside out

Get what use you can, there is not a way to "fix" that--the front screen unit is called a display panel and even if it was available the part alone would cost much more than the whole set did when new, time to go shopping for a new set.

Sorry, damage to the screen unit is always fatal.

farooq473, replace the Inverter.

1) An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. A Backlight is used to help provide the needed light.

2) An Inverter is used to provide power for the LCD screen, and the Backlight.

An Inverter boosts power up for the LCD screen, and lowers it for the Backlight.
90 percent of the time a bad Inverter is the problem.
A Backlight usually goes out all at once, Inverters slowly 'die'.

Dell Support > XPS 1210 Notebook PC > Service Manual,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsM1210/en/SM/index.htm

In the list click on > Display
Now click on Display Panel.

Dell doesn't show, and describe how to replace the Inverter.
When you click on Display Panel, you are looking at an exploded photo showing the Display Panel removed.
Scroll down to the next small illustration.
Has 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 pointing to the Display Panel.

5 shows you a pull tab to release a flat cable from the Inverter. The Inverter is the small circuit board to the left of the pull tab.

This is not advertising for this website. Just an example to show you what the Inverter circuit board looks like.

This is Not a Dell XPS 1210 Notebook PC. It is a guide for replacing an Inverter in a Dell Inspiron 1525 Notebook PC, but I wanted you to have photos, and instructions for the basic procedure.
After you have repaired over 100 laptops, you'll realize that they all have the same basic procedures.
Just different parts.

3) Be SURE ALL power is removed from the laptop before you start.
Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

4) You should follow Anti-Static Precautions implicitly. It would be best if you bought, and wore an ESD wrist strap. (Electro Static Discharge) Connect the alligator clip to a good ground source.
(For example, I connect to the metal frame of an empty desktop computer case)

The cost averages from $3 to $12.
A $3 ESD wrist strap will do just fine.
This is an example of an ESD wrist strap,

5) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
Label each container for the area the screws came out of.
You DO NOT want to mix them up!

You can use a clean egg carton in a pinch. Label each egg holder.

Picture problems

Is it one color that has moved? Sounds like a convergence problem. Find a channel with a fixed picture, or if you have digital cable or satellite pull up a guide, something with a straight line across the screen. You will likely see one of the colors is bowed or or shifted. You may be able to adjust that with your remote under the "convergence" adjustments in the menu. If it will not adjust it will need work done to the convergence circuit. Not a DIY project.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture looks like 3D without 3D glasses on???

The cost I don't know, but this can be fixed. I'd say shop around a bit. Make sure the repair person is certified for your TV's manufacturer. There are generally 3 lamps in projection T.V.'s, Red, Green, and Blue. They have to be aligned for the TV to project a clear picture. A credible TV repairman should be able to fix it. Depending on if it's new enough to be under warranty they may cover it as well. Really the only reason to get rid of it is if you want to get a new TV anyway. Depends on the cost of having the lamps aligned.
