Is it normal to get a faint gas smell when you hook up you'r gas dryer?

Absolutely. Your dryer runs on gas, and the gas kicks on when the heating element engages. It should be so faint though. If you smell it continuously then check your connections with soapy water, if their is a leak then shut off the gas and try using soap pipe dope, or teflon tape on the threads, then recheck. My guess is its the regulator near the heating element. Good luck

I have the dryer connected to the gas line I can smell the gas there is no glow or heat

If the connection to the back of the dryer is sealed and tested with a mix of water and soap the gas smell is coming from the injector area direceting the gas to the spark sensor. Upon starting the dryer the spark sensor makes a clicking sound that ignites the burner. If no heard the spark ignitor is at fault

Gas dryer smells like gas heats up a little bit

Hi,
The most common problem with gas dryers is the ignitor going bad....

Here is a tip that I wrote about that problem...

Smelled mild gas odor after moving dryer. Replaced gas line connection. Still smell gas. Tried to tighten gas line have strong gas odor after running dryer. Does not seem to be heating

The gas valve should not be opening unless the glow igniter glows and sends a signal to the gas valve. I suspect a small leak in either the gas pipe or at the gas valve. You will have to get to the gas valve to perform a leak test. While the dryer is open, replace the igniter.

Whirlpool gas dryer does not heat up everytime.

do you have the required 240 volts input? then check your input neutral power connection for continuity throughout the unit in suspect,
then start checking the "hi-Limit" switch, cycling switch, the heating element

Maytag gas dryer MDG6400AWW heats up for 2 minutes and that's it everything else runs. and twice I smelled gas when I opened the dryer door. the timer was replaced 2 years ago. Is there another problem?

turn gas off to dryer. For safety it is best not to wait get your gas company to find leak(i don't think they charge for that)if it is at the control valve you should take the screws that hold the coils down out.Remove coils and rubber O rings and replace all with new ones it comes as a kit

Gas dryer/will not heat

If when you run it you smell gas please stop running it!
You should shut the gas valve off immediately anyway!
If the gas heater isn't working when your running it it's probably the Valve that activates the gas (Selenoid) or the Ingnitor that lights it!
It could be the burner which distributes the gas in which case you would smell gas.
My best guess......the ignitor!
