Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Our dyer is turning itself off after about 20 minutes with a small load and all vents are clean and clear. I also made sure that it is level. After 10 minutes or so it will come back on for a bit. What's going on? I bought it new at Home Depot 5 years ago.

My LG dryer keeps blowing the high limit fuse. All ducts are clean and clear. Changed the cycling thermostat and high limit fuse and it blew after a day.

This is likely the result of an air flow problem if you are sure the heater is working properly. Ensure you are not running the dryer in a small closed room which would starve the dryer of air dramatically reducing the air over the clothes even if the full length of your vent is brand new. Next, remove the vent hose from the rear of the dryer and check for strong air flow at the outlet. If it seems strong enough then run a vent through a window or out into another room and do one load in this fashion. If this resolves your problem the blockage exists in the vent line outside your dryer and disassembling dryer becomes unnecessary.

If not, ensure you have seen and touched every inch of interior dryer piping and hold the lint filter up to the light to be sure you can see through it. Disassemble and clean ANY section of piping you can't get your hand into. The area below the lint filter tends to catch a lot of lint and can only be accessed by removing the housing at the rear on the left side as you face the rear. Ensure the blower wheel turns when the motor turns. (Newer models may have the filter housing at the front)

Remember.....the dyer heater is energized even if no air flows over the clothes. The heat will usually enter the drum overheating the clothing AND the underside of the top until a safety thermostat turns the heater off. This is a fire hazard that MAY ignite lint or clothing.

Having performed all these actions will likely resolve the problem.

It takes forever to dry a load of clothes. Drum

Hello,
Have you checked your vent for blockage? Over time, lint build-up in the vent and in the back of the dryer makes your drying time longer and longer. Unplug the dryer, pull it out and disconnect the vent. Using a flashlight and a vacuum, clean out the back of the dryer that connects to the vent and the vent itself. If you have a long vent line, you'll need to find a away to clean it out to clear any blockage. I use a hand-held plumbers snake that rolls up and pulls out as much length as needed. Then spin it around in the vent to knock off lint attached inside the vent tube walls. It may be easier to do this from the outside, but you can do it from the inside too. Check your outside vent cap for blockage and make sure the vent flap outside is not stuck closed. Also make sure when you push the dryer back into place, that you don't squish the vent tube, if it is made of plastic or foil. After reconnecting the vent, turn on the dryer. The air flow may blow out the lint you have dislodged with the snake. Clean out as necessary at the outside vent. I have a long vent line on my dryer, so I have do this annually. This has helped shorten my dry time every time I do it. Of course, cleaning out the filter regularly, does help too. The more often you clean the filter, the less lint that will build up in the vent . Hope this helps. Douglas

Dyer will not turn on. I have cleaned the heat sensors, the lights go on, it is not over loaded..any thoughts

check the angle on the vent hose on the back of the machine and the vent flap hoodie thing outside also the vent hose should not exceed 11 feet. I had this problem and replaced the springy plastic covered vent hose with a rigid aluminum one and still have to check from time to time to make shore the hose is clear where it attaches to the machine. The lint from the extreme spin on the axxis washer is very fine and slightly damp it binds like paper mache.

LGE59777S Not drying

There is a little sensor that tells the dryer when to heat and when not to heat. that sensor is bad. If you take the back of the dryer off you will see it. It is about the size of a half dollar and has 2 wires that plug into it. While you have it apart make sure that the dryer vent on the back of the dryer is not plugged with lint. Major cause for fires in dryers.
