I’m an Owner of the FAV6800AW and have helped many folks on this and other forums with their FAV6800A and FAV9800A machine issues.

Let’s do a positive ID on your machine so there is no guessing as to a repair diagnosis. I can’t post pic’s in the clarification section so I have to post as solution. Is your machine is one of these models please let me know which one?

Here the machine types supported in this forum; Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer

Is your machine one of these types?

drum will not spin but agitators turn - f64b546.jpg
If so then do you take any error codes to the LED diaplay such as dC or uC during spin cycle or and unvalance statement to the LCD display?

Let gather that inf first and I will see if i can help tou DIY the fix or at least control cost if you decide to call in a repair service.....Rich

Sounds like one of 2 things has happened. First, it could be the drive belt has broken. If you can move the machine check for tiny pieces of rubber "lint" underneath. Or it could be the "transmission" is not working properly.
In either case you should have a professional look at it.

Washer makes grinding/loud sound and will not agitate-spins fine

Look under the washer. Is there a little pile of black rubber shavings? This sounds like the basket coupler between the motor and the drum. If the coupler is the problem it is inexpensive to fix. Some also call this part the "clutch". It kind of looks like a hockey puck with six holes in it... three for the motor, three for the clothes drum. In your case, I suspect that the holes are intact in the direction of spin, but as soon as it reverses for agitation, it breaks out through the back of the holes.

Agitator off center

Possible that the drum agitator bearings are off track or worn out. Please check these links for support.

Drum knock when spin cycle

Hello.
Noises are common when using a two-in-one washer and dryer, as clicking or whirring is part of the cleaning process during the transition to the next cleaning process. The GE Spacesaver washer and dryer combo uses a top-loading washer stacked beneath the front-loading dryer, and uses an agitator that makes noises throughout the spin cycle. Although whirring or clicking is normal, other noises or malfunction indicates a problem with the washer that requires minor troubleshooting. Professional repair is necessary if the washer continues to experience problems during the spin cycle, as there may be a problem with the washer's agitator.
1 Open the washer's door and check the balance of the load's clothes. Clothes that are unevenly distributed around the agitator cause excessive shaking and result in an imbalance during the spin cycle. Reduce the load's size by removing clothing if the washer's drum is overloaded.
2 Push "Start/Pause" to pause the spin cycle and turn the washer's cycle knob to the "Off" position. Turn the knob to "Spin Only" and press "Start/Pause" to reset the cycle.
3 Turn the wrench counterclockwise or clockwise around the unit's legs to adjust the appliance's balance. The legs are adjustable with the help of a wrench to ensure the unit does not shake while in use. An unleveled unit shakes as it spins, and causes excessive squealing or rattling as it attempts to dry the clothes.
4 Touch "Start/Pause" on the front of the washer's control panel and unplug the washer/dryer unit's power cord from the electric oultlet. Wait two minutes and plug the power cord back into the electric outlet. Push "Start/Pause" to resume the spin cycle.
Thanks.

Frigidaire washing machine gets stuck on cycles

The cycle doesn't advance When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Just out of storage, my washer is having difficulties.

Hi, There are capacitors that give an initial boost to start the motor moving and these tend to go bad from sitting for long periods, that's why you could give it an assist and it would work, you are providing the extra boost. Helping it though causes other problems, like belt and voltage control problems, so that is not a good idea. You should have it looked at if you are not electrically or mechanically inclined. Best of luck to you!
