Im not sure why you want your dns server number but here you go. go to start, run, type in cmd and this opens the command prompt. from there type in ipconfig /all make sure after you type in ipconfig to hit your spacebar once then forward slash. you will see your dns # let me know exactly what you need. hope it works for you.

it will for a little while. usually after system restore things run sluggish. it wouldnt hurt though to do a disk cleanup and defrag your hardrive.

Are you referring to the one for emailing? Go to your service providor(ISP) website, and look for email settings in the help/support screen. Each one is unique, so I can't really tell you which it is.

Try cleaning your browser's cache.
Make sure your DNS server is working correctly. You can try switching to openDNS and see if that helps. Also, Google has an open DNS option.

  1. Click Start and then Control Panel
  2. Click View network status and tasks
  3. Click Change adapter settings on the left portion of the Window.
  4. Double-click the icon for the Internet connection you're using. Often this will be labeled "Local Area Connection" or the name of your ISP. If you have multiple connections, make sure not to click the one with the red X.
  5. Click the Properties button.
  6. Click and highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
  7. If not already selected, select Use the following DNS server addresses
  8. Enter the new DNS addresses and then click Ok and close out of all other windows.
openDNS:
DNS1: 208.67.222.222
DNS1: 208.67.222.222
Google's DNS
DNS1: 8.8.8.8
DNS2: 8.8.4.4
Hope this helps.

Tip

How to change your DNS (Domain Name Server) on your Windows computer. Faster...

Hi Thanks for looking.

Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) provide you with Domain Name Server which translates website names to language that computer can understand which is an IP address of the website. Faster the response from DNS the faster your website will load.

In this tip I will explain how to change your Domain Name Server (DNS) in order to speed up your web browsing.

Go to

Start--->Control Panel--->Network Connections
Please note that you may need to switch to "Classic view of Control Panel in order to see default view.

Right click on network connection that you are currently using and choose "Properties"From the list in box choose "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click "Properties" below. You will be shown a window with two tabs and in General Tab you will have options to change your IP address (we don't want to touch this)and option to set DNS manually.
Click on " Use the following DNS address"Now you can change your DNS to whatever you like. I recommend "Open DNS" which is faster then most of default DNS's.
Ok to change your DNS to "Open DNS you need to type 208.67.222.222 in preferred DNS box and 208.67.220.220 in Alternate DNS box.Click OK and then OK again.

Bravo! You just changed your DNS.

How to set DNS setting

This step-by-step article describes how to install and configure DNS on your Windows Server 2003 computer.

Before You Start loadTOCNode(2, 'summary'); Before you start to configure your DNS, you must gather some basic information. Internic must approve some of this information for use on the Internet, but if you are configuring this server for internal use only, you can decide what names and IP addresses to use.

You must have the following information:
  • Your domain name (approved by Internic).
  • The IP address and host name of each server that you want to provide name resolution for.
Note: The servers may be your mail servers, public access servers, FTP servers, WWW servers, and others.

Before you configure your computer as a DNS, verify that the following conditions are true:
  • Your operating system is configured correctly. In the Windows Server 2003 family, the DNS service depends on the correct configuration of the operating system and its services, such as TCP/IP. If you have a new installation of a Windows Server 2003 operating system, then you can use the default service settings. You do not have to take additional action.
  • You have allocated all the available disk space.
  • All the existing disk volumes use the NTFS file system. FAT32 volumes are not secure, and they do not support file and folder compression, disk quotas, file encryption, or individual file permissions
Install DNS loadTOCNode(2, 'summary');
  1. Open Windows Components Wizard. To do so, use the following steps:
    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
    2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  2. In Components, select the Networking Services check box, and then click Details.
  3. InSubcomponents of Networking Services, select the Domain Name System (DNS) check box, click OK, and then click Next.
  4. If you are prompted, in Copy files from, type the full path of the distribution files, and then click OK.
Configure DNS loadTOCNode(2, 'summary');
  1. Start the Configure Your Server Wizard. To do so, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Configure Your Server Wizard.
  2. On the Server Role page, click DNS server, and then click Next.
  3. On the Summary of Selections page, view and confirm the options that you have selected. The following items should appear on this page:
    • Install DNS
    • Run the Configure a DNS Wizard to configure DNS
If the Summary of Selections page lists these two items, click Next. If the Summary of Selections page does not list these two items, click Back to return to the Server Role page, click DNS, and then click Next.
  4. When the Configure Your Server Wizard installs the DNS service, it first determines whether the IP address for this server is static or is configured automatically. If your server is currently configured to obtain its IP address automatically, the Configuring Components page of the Windows Components Wizard prompts you to configure this server with a static IP address. To do so:
    1. In the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.
    2. In the Internet Protocols (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, click Use the following IP address, and then type the static IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway for this server.
    3. In Preferred DNS, type the IP address of this server.
    4. In Alternate DNS, type the IP address of another internal DNS server, or leave this box blank.
    5. When you finish setting up the static addresses for your DNS, click OK, and then click Close.
  5. After you click Close, the Configure a DNS Server Wizard starts. In the wizard, follow these steps:
    1. On the Select Configuration Action page, select the Create a forward lookup zone check box, and then click Next.
    2. To specify that this DNS hosts a DNS zone that contains DNS resource records for your network resources, on the Primary Server Location page, click This server maintains the zone, and then click Next.
    3. On the Zone Name page, in Zone name, specify the name of the DNS zone for your network, and then click Next. The name of the zone is the same as the name of the DNS domain for your small organization or branch office.
    4. On the Dynamic Update page, click Allow both nonsecure and secure dynamic updates, and then click Next. This makes sure that the DNS resource records for the resources in your network update automatically.
    5. On the Forwarders page, click Yes, it should forward queries to DNS servers with the following IP addresses, and then click Next. When you select this configuration, you forward all DNS queries for DNS names outside your network to a DNS at either your ISP or central office. Type one or more IP addresses that either your ISP or central office DNS servers use.
    6. On the Completing the Configure a DNS Wizard page of the Configure a DNS Wizard, you can click Back to change any of the settings. To apply your selections, click Finish.
After you finish the Configure a DNS Wizard, the Configure Your Server Wizard displays the This Server is Now a DNS Server page. To review all the changes that you made to your server in the Configure Your Server Wizard or to make sure that a new role was installed successfully, click Configure Your Server log. The Configure Your Server Wizard log is located at %systemroot%\Debug\Configure Your Server.log. To close the Configure Your Server Wizard, click Finish.

Hey im tring to connect to xbox live through hughes net but i need my primary dns server and my secondary dns server and some other stuff and i was wondering if u could help me please

I'm not sure why you would need that. If your connecting your xbox through a router, it should get an address automatically, however you can always try some free public dns servers, such as googles

The Google Public DNS IP addresses are as follows:
  • 8.8.8.8
  • 8.8.4.4

What is the primary DNS and secondary DNS?

There are two basic types of DNS - primary DNS and secondary DNS, which are generally applied to each newly registered domain. They are name server computers where the record of your domain name is stored. The information on both servers is identical. The two DNS values are usually configured by your ISPor hosting provider and given to you as a very important part of your domain registration order details.

In general, domain names can work with only one name server - the primary DNS. However, practice has shown that a domain name needs to have at least two name servers assigned in order to be available at any time. In case there is a problem with the primary name server, the secondary name server will be able to answer the online request for a particular domain. This back-up requirement has turned into an accepted Internet standard that prevents domain names from going offline.

Linksy router

a DNS server stands for domain name service. The DNS server translatesnames from IP addresses. The internet sees IP addresses such as 209.235.250.53 but the DNS server provided by your ISP translates it for you into fixya.com. You should be able to aquire the DNS server information from your internet provider (ISP) hope this helps.

DNS Name resolution Between private & Public network.

You do not need to configure ISP's PTR records. Instead define their DNS addresses as forwarders in the properties of DNS server under forwarders tab and flush DNS cache.
