Question about Dell Dimension B110 PC Desktop

2 Answers

My PC cannot "see" my CD/DVD drive at all. I have been totally unsuccessful in restoring drive. It has power. I replaced the drive and the ribbon cable...I have tried to edit registry per MS site, no luck at all. I tried to do a rollback but the drive is still not there. In the boot order it says to boot from CD second (CD drive not installed). I have done a system scan in device manager. Still no luck.

Checked the connections and they all appear to be good. I can open/close the drive and it spools up but that's it. Any other ideas?

I assume you mean to uninstall in the device manager, right? The device doesn't show there at all. Any other ideas?
    Thanks!!

No dice. It added the device "CD-ROM" in the device manager but it would not function or allow me to update/install the driver. I tried to do a restore to factory settings and that also failed.

Thank you for the help...apparently this machine is beyond help.

Go to Control Panel/System and UNINSTALL THE CD/DVD.

Then reboot.

I have had this problem for some time, and was given this tip by an Acer Tech.

    hhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

    OK.
    Try this.

Control Panel, and use the New Hardware Wizard. When it comes to what device, call it an OPTICAL or CD or whatever similar your system shows.
Personally I avoid this but sometimes................

    Interesting.

I assume that the CD Drive works????

Because if it doesn't then that is the problem.
They fail for no apparent reason sometimes.

Speaking of CD drives.... NEVER put in a disk that is cracked around the centre. I lost a BRAND NEW Drive because a CD blew up inside the drive. second time I used it.

How to restore from recovery disk after installing a new hard drive

The procedure to restore from recovery disk will vary according to which computer you have. Usually you insert the recovery disc in CD / DVD drive after selecting boot sequence 1 from CD/DVD in Bios. You then push the power on button. Once windows boots from recovery CD it will continue with building up the new hard drive.

If you have a CD/DVD with the operating system on it, run that from your CD/DVD drive at start up. Do not attempt to try a windows restore from the computer hard drive. When the CD stops, you will have an option; Restore or Repair Option. Use that and try to fix the problem. If that fails, you will have lost what ever was on the hard drive and you must install Windows all over from anew.

My computer says NTLDR is missing

The files necessary to boot Windows are corrupt or there has been a change to the drive configuration. To repair this you will need the installation CD or a windows ERD (emergency recovery disc) disc. If you can access the drive from a bootable disc try to perform a system restore from a recent restore point. If you use the install CD you can try the "repair" option and at the prompt type "fixboot". If unsuccessful retry and type "fixMBR". If unsuccessful you can try a repair install. The final option is a complete reinstall.

Do you have a cd/dvd in the drive? (a non-system disk)

Try to boot into safe mode.

Try to restore to an earlier time.

If unsuccessful ... you may have to reload the operating system

When i turn the pc on it goes to hit f1 to cont of f2 and then it says it can not read the hard drive

First open cpu cabinet.
Then reattach both connection cable power cable and sata or ide cable to harddrive.
Then when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios then check there your harddisk is detected?
If your harddisk is detected in bios you can boot your harddrive.
Let me know if you need more assistance.
Thanks.
