This is due to a faulty DVD drive and can be replaced by Microsoft for free provided your console is still under warranty

How to play a scratched disc on xbox 360 or some other consoles

Note: I have only experienced using this trick on the XBox 360 Console.
One common problem that video game players have all the time are scratched discs. A helpful way around buying a brand new game or a disc scratch remover, is to first:

a.) Borrow the same version of the game from a friend
OR
b.) Rent the same version of the game from a store
Now, take the unscratched disc, and install it to your hard drive.
And lastly, now you can put in the scratched disc and go to "Game Library", choose the game, and select "Play from Hard drive."
The reason this trick works, is because when you play your disc from the hard drive, it uses minimal memory from the disc itself.
NOTE: Installing a disc to your hard drive does NOT replace having to put in the game to play it.
You still need a copy of the game in order to run it from your hard drive. I believe this is some security feature so people don't go around copying the games and not buying them.
Also, I would NOT install the scratched disc to your hard drive, for this will not help your problem at all.

Playing through Metal gear solid 4 and i get this CD icon with a question mark after 10 minutes of playing and it appears every 2 minutes. I have had the game since launch and have never had this problem...

It sounds like your disk is scratched. The easiest solution is to go to a video rental store and have them re-surface it (most likely for a fee) or you can go to a store and look for a dvd scratch repair kit (cost between $15.99-$30.00) if neither of these work you will most likely need to buy a new disc

Got a game that won't read but don't see any scratches and all other games play in the same console

If the game is brand new, maybe the disk need to be clean. Clean it gently with a polishing cloth. If it is sticky or something has got on it, use some water. If these fail go to a local shop such as Blockbuster, Gamestop, etc. and ask to get the disk resurfaced. It basically eliminates any scratches and deformities in the surface and it only costs $5 or so. However, it will take about 10 minutes to resurface.

Xbox game had perfect circle scratch

most resurface machines can resurface discs for up to 50 minutes. Take the game back to where you had it resurfaced and have them do it again and test the game before you take it home. (even if that means bringing your box to the store with you)!

Games sometimes play, then won't load, black screen.

try to make sure that the resolution and connections are appropriate for your screen at your home. if these settings are alreay correct then you should probably just return the system and try to get one from somewhere like amazon or ebay. sorry. Hope you get a good ps3!

Xbox 360 arcade

I would defenetly take it back to the store becase it can be a problem with the dvd drive. if this is the case it will keep scratching the games.

Inserted disc press play grinding sound and disc left scrapped

If your xbox box it's new I would take it back and get another one, becase you do probable have problems with your dvd drive and it will keep scratching the games. the laser on the drive doesn't work as hard when playing a music cd than when it plays a game or a dvd.

If you don't want to take it back, then play a couple dvds and if it reads then fine then you could try again. it shiudn't take more than ten second to read a game so if its taking longer just get it out.
