If we turn it off and then back on, and push the bottons untill it reaches the spin cycled the lid will lock and its fine. Also it makes a strange noise at the begaining of the wash cycle when the water enters from the top right side. Just at first then it goes away.

Usually the timer is to blame then. You can order a new one through a local shop, or the place you bought it. Otherwise, generally they are cheaper online such as at repairclinic.com where you just need to enter the model number into the search box.

Let me know how this works out for you.

Hi,

The lid switch may be out, if so trying to activate with a screwdriver won't actually activate it. Please double check all the connections first. A lot of the times when you can start the washer spinning by hand it's the clutch, which sets on the transmission. It gets rusty and starts sticking.

Washer keeps spinning. doesn't move to next cycle

Hi,
It sounds like the agitator , air bell or transmission is failing. Since the unit spins the belt & motor is ok. I recommend removing & inspecting the agitator & air bell. If they are not stripped out then you have a transmission failure.
Or, start the washer at the beginning of a cycle set to the lowest water level. After the unit fills it should be agitating stop the washer. Open the lid & try moving the agitator, if the agitator will not move it is good & no need to remove for inspection. You have a bad transmission. If the agitator moves easily then we know that the agitator or air bell is stripped out & will need to be inspected for confirmation before replacing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Agitator wil not move makes a growling sound but all spin cycles still work

Either the transmission is bad, or more likely the agitator dogs are broken. If you pull the top pieces from the agitator you can see the agitator dogs and tell if they are intact or broken. If they are good, the transmission might be bad. The only other thing will depend on if the machine goes through the wash cycle to the rinse and spin without ever agitating, or if you have to manually move it. If you have to manually move it, your timer is probably bad.

Agitator top does not move during cycle. Bottom

Hi, You will need to change the dog kit inside the agitator. Remove the cap on top of the agitator and you will find a 7/16" bolt. Remove the bolt and seperate the agitator. The dog kit is located betwee the 2 pieces.
Please let me know if this helps you or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

GE Top Load Washing Machine -- Agitator will not cycle

Agitator's don't spin on wash cycle.

I would suggest washing the clothes without soap until they rinse clear. If you have hard water, the soap will not easily rinse out of clothes, or off of you when you use soap to wash or shower.

Reduce the amount of soap you use in each wash if this is the case. It sounds like your washing machine is working right.

Agitation issues. Everything else appears/works normally.

I just encountered the same problem. I think the operation of the machine is such that the motor turns one direction for the spin cycle, and the other direction for the agitate cycle. I am replacing my motor, as I think i have a bad winding on the reverse. I will let you know.

Agitator moves slowly on wash cycle/not at all on spin cycle

it sounds like the dogs are worn. try twisting the agitator post by hand,it should move freely in one direction then lock up going the other.its a pretty easy fix if they are.pry off the top of the agitator post off then remove the cap inside, there is a bolt that holds the post down.i'm pretty sure it's 7/16 in. once the bolt is loose, lift the whole agitator out of machine and with your hand inside post turn it upside downand let the dog holder slide out.watch how the dogs fit into the holder, replace with new dogs and reverse the removal process.
if the machine wont spin, check the lid switch. thats usually the cause of a no spin situation.other than that a wet vac is your best bet.hope that helps.
