Are you certain you're programming new codes properly? It should just overwrite the codes when new ones are programmed. If you are doing it right, then I'd say you may want to have the unit repaired/replaced...
To program new codes (just in case):
Push the program button on the control board once for memory 1 OR twice for memory 2. Enter a 4-8 digit code. Push the lock button to end the entry. The unit will emit a 2-second long beep if your code is accepted. (If it doesn't beep, you were too slow. Try again.) Repeat the process for the other memory position.

I had the same exact problem. Follow GalxyT25 instuructions they work! Yes, to erase old codes just make sure you enter new codes for both memories. Also as GalaxyT25 mentions enter the code as soon as possible after you hit the back button. That was my problem. His instructions worked beautifully. Thanks a million.

I had the same problem with myPowerbolt 1000. I could not erase codes. In despiration, I tried entering a 3rd code by pressing the control button 3 times (after entering 2 new codes as explained by Galaxy T25 above). IT WORKED! The old codes were gone.<!-- from fixya rte -->

We were able to change 2 codes by GalxyT25/s instructions but couldnt clear the mastercode. We then pressed the programme button 3 times as suggested by mikey556 and re-entered a new code and it l changed the mastercode. Thanks.

Deleting Codes on a Weiser powerbolt.

The Weiser brand and Kwikset brand Powerbolt are identical (Black & Decker), so these instructions will work just fine for you:

Notice that the above is a .PDF file type. That means that you need to have Adobe Reader or similar installed on your computer to view it. So if you are unable to view the file, download (for free) and install Adobe Reader first. You can get it here:

Any four digit code works no matter how many times you reset code. how do you erase all codes and start fresh?

How do I change the access code (and delete my old code) on my Powerbolt 1000?

The steps below are to change your access code to a new code. This will also remove any previous codes stored in the Powerbolt's memory.

pb1000programbutton

  1. Manually put the bolt in the extended (lock) position. Press the PROGRAM button once, enter your new 4 - 8 digit code and then press the LOCK button.
  2. Press the PROGRAM button twice, enter the same new code and then press the LOCK button once.
  3. Press the PROGRAM button three times, enter the same new code and then press LOCK once.
If your old code still remains in the unit, you will need to perform a hard reset of the unit. To perform a hard reset of the unit, remove all four batteries and leave them out for 1 hour. After the hour has passed, you may re-enter the batteries.

I'd recommend replacing the batteries if you haven't done so yet.
Good luck--and please provide feedback if this helps!
