I have the same problem....and no it's not as simple as pressing the power button. :)

I've tested the cords, outlets, etc....nothing seems to work. One day, working like a charm, the next, nothing.

    Please help if you can.

The round lights on the front of the drive are actually power off/on button. Have you tried pressing it? I know it's simple, but you never know. :)

You can try to open the hard drive cabinet and to put the hard drive into another cabinet in order to see if the problem comes from the unit itself

Unplug the power supply from the hard drive, leave for 15 seconds.

Plug power supply back in.

Try another USB cable if that does not work.

Sounds like you need to create a new partition, and if you find that a partition already exists, delete it and create another.

WD HD Media player damaged my hard drive??

Hi Dear! This problem could be solved through a software. You should use Western Digital Disk Manager, your WD hard disk will work properly after using that your WD hard disk pass all test of the software. When it will pass all test it will work properly and in other condition if it will not pass then you should try again so that the software will fix the error and it will made workable.
Thank You

Western Digital External Hard Drive Won't Boot Up

Take it our of the external encasing and plug it in directly to your motherboard. This has worked for me in the past. I just had my second wd external harddrive crash so now I will do the same process all over again.

Wd anywhere backup wont allow macbook to shutdown

I couldn't stop it from backing up, so used "force quit" from the activity monitor. It was still running a background service (WDMemeoAgent?). I stopped that from an icon left in my tool bar. I don't think I use it since it estimated 30-40 for the first backup of my home folder and it wouldn't allow me to pause or quit.

I have the 80GB WD passport and it suddenly stopped working one day.  The unit lights up but nothing else.  Finally I cracked the case open and found, as I suspected, that the drive is simply a SATA laptop drive with a SATA-to-USB conversion card built in.  I suspected that the card was **** so I disconnected it and used a USB hard drive adapter (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=3770&name=USB_Hard_Drive_Adapter) and I can read/write to the drive just fine.  Best part is that the adapter I use has its own power supply so I'm not pulling juice through the USB cable for a SATA drive.
Even though mine "works" again I don't recommend these drives to anyone.  They're just not sturdy enough or well designed.
