Question about Ovens

Open Question

Oven does not attain proper temperatures. Slow to preheat. Whirlpool electric oven Model RB260PXBQ2 Symptoms When bake temperature is entered neither element glows red. When broil is selected upper element glows red. Oven cycles during preheat. When two oven thermometers are placed in the oven (one on the top rack and one on the lower rack), after preheat with the target temperature set at 350, the top thermometer reads 320, the lower thermometer reads 250. The oven takes about 15 minutes to reach what it thinks is the target temperature. I understand that it should take in the neighborhood of 12 minutes; that is not my primary concern. I can?t isolate the symptoms to controller or element or both??

SOURCE: My oven is burning my baked goods, but shows the

If it is convection bake you have to turn the temp down (25 degrees or so) that is listed in the recipe.

The broil setting is not used to bake because it operates differently from the bake setting. So, don't go to the broil setting at all.
The element for bake is under the floor of the oven. You have not indicated whether it is gas or electric, but both of these can have issues with the burner or element.

If you are baking on the correct setting and the oven is heating from the bottom, not the top, this can be caused by hot spots that are created by elements/burners.

to check, look under the floor of the oven. Turn the bake heat up to high and see if the flame is uneven. For an electric oven, the color of the element should be evenly red, no brown spots.

If you are using an oven thermometer, move the thermometer to the spot in the oven that seems to be burning things the most.

SOURCE: Oven sometimes doesn't heat up. Sometimes heats up

This sounds like a weak igniter, it would have to be a gas oven and the symtoms usually are: takes longer than normal to ignite the burner, may or may not smell gas in the oven, does not maintain set temperature, eventually won't heat at all. On gas ovens, a glo igniter is like a light bulb, the more you cook, the faster it wears out. Bottom line, needs to be replaced. Good luck.

SOURCE: Maytag Gemini mgr6775 Lower oven

maybe you should have the lower oven cleaned including the gas caps, it may be tideous but worth it. first is to locate the burners, it may be dirty or clogged so the heating procedure is delay and often times consuming.

here i provided you with the manual and go to page 11 to go straight to the cleaning procedure.

General Electric oven how to reset thermostat

First of all, most oven thermometers move very slowly compared to the electronic sensors and controls on the oven. To make sure you are getting an accurate reading, the thermometer should be in the center of the oven, the oven should be preheated, then wait another 20 minutes after the preheat beep. If the temperature is less than 35 degrees higher or lower at this point, it can be adjusted via the controls. Usually on GE ovens you press and hold bake and broil at the same time until SF comes up in the display. Then press bake, then use the arrow keys to raise or lower the temperature setting. If the temperature is more than 35 degrees off, you may have a bad sensor, bad control board, or other problem.

I hit the bake button on my oven and after 10 secs it says preheat and thats all that happens nothing else no heat at all

Hello,
Your oven will continue to indicate that it is preheat mode until the thermostat senses the proper set temperature. If you are getting no heat then you will need to address that issue. This could be many things but the most notorious would be the heating element. Could be the control panel as well. Some ovens have a knob for preheat, bake and clean with a separate knob to adjust the temperature. Make sure both are set properly.

Error code E2F3 indicates oven overheating, i.e. sensor is not cutting off heat. Replace the sensor, about $75 online. If you have done this more than twice, or if oven is acting strangely (for instance, broiler comes on during "bake" preheat), replace control board OEM part #8302994, about $170.

Oven takes a long time to preheat

If it's electric ... could be one of:

1. Bake or Broil element has gone bad. The Broil element is cycled on and off during Bake pre-heat, so if it is bad this would slow down pre-heat. Does Broil work OK? (If gas, may be ignitor problem).

2. Temperature sensor problem. Does the oven eventually get to the right temperature?

3. Control board failure. If #1 and #2 are ok ... we see the control board fail and cause these symptoms. If so, we may be able to help you, we repair control boards at

Amana Convection oven not controlling temp

I have just checked the baking guide in the manual and have found that it may not be us after all. (Maybe this is why they telll us to read the whole manual. Well, I never have) According to the cooking time for Baking, the range is very extensive. For example, an angel cake at 350 could take from 28-50 minutes, buscuits at 375-400 could take 8-16 minutes, layer cakes at 350-375 could take 25-40 minutes, pound cakes at 325-350 could take 45-70 minutes and fresh pies at 400-450 could take 35-60 minutes. Basically, the baking directions on the box means absolutely nothing to use Amana oven owners. We have no choice but to cook our food or baked goods until they are cooked, whenever that may be. :) Linda
