Question about Broan-NuTone N-8663RP Combination Light Fan Exhaust Fan

2 Answers

I installed a Nutone Bathroom Exaust fan/Light combo #8663RP at my home several years ago. It has worked fine until last week, when it started making a funny noise. I took out the motor/fan assembly and it looks like the fan blade is slightly loose on its shaft and scrapes against the motor mounting plate, slowing down the motor and, I'm sure, doing it no good. The motor sounds fine (no bearing noise) and when I hold it upside down, there is no problem, no scraping. There was a lot of dust and gunk inside the whole fan unit and there is insulation over the top of it, but the instructions say that it is suitable for use in insulated ceilings.Do I need an entire motor/fan assembly or can it be repaired short of that? thanks for your help

Hello georod01,

Pretty simple problem and you have a few options.. first off.. If you take the fan/motor assembly out of the housing ( meaning : unplug the motor ... power off of course... and remove the sheetmetal screws that secure the mount that holds the fan/motor to the housing.....) You may have already done this... On some models, there is a set screw that secures the fan to the motor shaft.. you may be able to snug that up to stop the wobble... If the motor is OK and the fan is spinning but making contact with the housing.. It may not be centered in the housing so you may be able to better orient it..
If that fails to solve your problem, you can get a fan/motor assembly at home depot and either transfer it from the new bracket to the original ( if they are different).. or transfer just the fan blade onto the old motor... I think it costs about $8 - $12 for that and they are not usually easy to find but they do sell them...try the plumbing section...
As for suitability in an insulated area.. you should have no problems unless you put the wrong bulb size in the holder.. most of them have an over-temp cutoff sensor built in.. The fan motor is not much of a heat source... Hope that helps...

These complete units are very inexpensive...by the time you get the what if parts...you will be close to replacing the unit cost wise... plus you will have a clean new look on the grill and on the light lense...

A Bryant 3 way independent rocker switch with red, black and white wires for 3 lights in bathroom one switch not working can i replace it with a Broan Nutone P66V three function control

397bfdd.jpgLeviton triple switch
fe442eb.jpgNutone P66V

Nutone looks like an ordinary three-switch combo being marketed as a bathroom 'fan switch.'
The screws on the device would tell the story.

Look at the Leviton screws:
The switch has dark-colored screw on one side >> the hot from breaker always connects to dark screws.
Other side of switch has 3 silver-colored screws, but these can be brass colored screws > the wires to fan light and heater connect to each of these screws.

Most likely the Nutone switch is identical to the Leviton
I say this because the descriptor on Amazon describes it as a 'fan' switch.
It's being marketed as a bathroom fan-light combo switch >>> so it looks like an ordinary three-combo switch

Looking for repacement globe for bath room exaust fan

Hi there, What I would do without knowing what kind of exhaust fan you have is Google it online. Or, if you have the make, model number, etc., and take it down to your nearest home depot, lowe's, etc., or heating and supply company close to you. These are pretty common exhaust fans, so you should have no problem finding a replacement. Good Luck with this, and if you have an other problem regarding your fan, feel free to contact me and I'd be willing to help you out.  - Jim

How do I change the light bulb and/or night light for my NuTone bathroom Fan-Light Model 8663RP?

The whole cover/grill/globe pulls straight down to expose the bulbs. There are two heavy "V" springs, one opposite the other, that hold the grill to the fan box. You need to overcome the holding power of these two springs to pull the grill down. If necessary, you may want to run around the edge with a sharp knife in the event it was painted in place.

It is really easy to change the motor yourself. It is about a 15 minute job. You just need to find your model number and then you can buy the complete motor assembly. https://www.centralvacuumstores.com/model_number_help.php
